K3b for KDE is free, if you want to boot into linux when you want to write a cd.
Check www.sourceforge.net and have a look, it's all free open source projects.

then follow the second 1/2 of my advice.
Linux is free anyway, for a beginner, try downloading gnoppix and see what you think if you want to try and learn more. (you just shutdown, and boot up with the cd in the drive, no install needed)

All I know is that eve is windows software...
If you can tell me how to play eve on linux im sold. The problem is you can't.
Edit: Ok I am wrong, aparently you can. I did a google search and came up with a probram called winW. Anyone know if running a game on linux with winX or similar software is faster, slower or the same as running it on native windows?

Wine/WineX is what you use to use windows software on linux....gaming is slower, because it's much more CPU intensive, although it can be done... most older games run ok. The problem is, not everything works on it, so you'd only know if you tried.

Thank you for the most usefull post in this thread. Downloading now.
Edit: I can't get that software to work. I start it up and select data CD. It starts "scanning buses" for a few min and crashes to desktop. Snap.
