Just A Heads Up

Now that our very own Infernus has taken the extraordinarily brave step of coming out and admitting that he was gay to the whole PSU community, I have a personal favor that I need to ask each attendee of PSU:MA.

What none of us who haven't done it could possibly understand is how hard it is for a person to admit to their friends and family that they are gay. There is a tremendous amount of expectation attached to a person by outside sources, and most of it is put there by parents.

Infernus, while incredibly brave for telling this massive community, has yet to feel ready to tackle his biggest hurdle - telling his parents.

The reason I made this thread was because Infernus's dad will be attending PSU:MA. I'm writing now to ask any of you who are coming to refrain from making any jokes/comments pertaining to his sexual preference, whether his dad is around or not. I don't think I have to mention this at all, but I'd rather not assume.

Also, let's show some support for Infernus - the kid's done something ballsier than most of us will ever do in our lifetimes!

Not a problem. I have a long-time friend who came out of the closet a few years back, and I still remain good friends with him today. I know what he went through with his parents finding out and stuff (they were very unreceptive of it :\ ) so I will be sure to respect Infernus's needs as well.

The point is, coming to your family and saying, "I want to do something unexpected and unconventional with my choice of career path" is a pinch for your family compared to the punch in the face of saying, "Mom, Dad, I'm gay."

I could care either way, but I can see where lonehunter is coming from, there are a couple of differently sexually minded people in our clan and in my real life and there not be any announcement, I could care less if they announced it they are my friends. I don't understand the need to make a big commotion about it, he is a person like anyone else and has differences just as others, but what warrants an announcement and what doesn't? For the record NO, I'm NOT anorexic, YES, I do eat (quite a lot actually due to my high metabolism, but you guys will see that for yourself at PSUMA) and YES I do work out, I stock lumber by hand at a warehouse for a living. My genes are just very resistant to letting me gain any weight. I figure eventually my metabolism will slow down, hopefully sooner than later.
