Planetside Performance?

Alright, I used to play Planetside with the following setup:
Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus Mobo
Amd Athlon 2500+ XP w/ Barton Core
256 Mb Generic PC2100 Ram
Ati Radeon 9600xt
Maxtor 40gb Slowass HD

I still have the same setup however recently a netbudddy of mine sent me a free 1 gig kit of Kingston HyperX pc4000 ram and even paid the shipping :rofl:

With my old setup, I never got more than 10 fps and like 1 or 2 fps in zerg with all settings turned down and after having done all the tweaks in all the guides. What I would like to know is, with the new memory, what sort of framerates can i expect, and will I be able to turn the graphics up a lil and still maintain playable framerates?

You cab excpect a HUGE difference than before. Planetside is a RAM maniac.

Definately expect CONSIDERABLE improvement.

edit- your current ram is definately your computer's weakest link, I'm guessing it was holding back the capabilities of the rest of your hardware quite a bit

once you got that gig o' ram dont be afraid to run on the near-highest settings.

768mb RAM

Thinking about upgrading to a gig. I too get 1-2 fps in zergs. Will an extra 256 do any good?

More importantly, what's the DDR of your RAM? If it's 400 or above, you should have been fine already: I run at 30 FPS with 512 MB of DDR-333 RAM. But if it's any lower than DDR-300, you should do a complete overhaul and replace all your RAM with a Gig of DDR-400+

Well, no doubt there's some uber-tekky way to figure that out, but if you bought your computer, then you could probably check your computer model, call up the company, and ask. If you put it together, I hope you saved your receipts; if so, call the seller of the individual hardware and find out.

you have rambus, most likley. it's your CPU thats killing your game, though.

but that need new mobo+ram+cpu = much denero. in the meantime use the newest ATI drivers

OH shit, I didn't notice the Processor speed there. Yeah, you guys are definitely right; I still get lag with a 2.6 Ghz Processor. Or mebbe that's just my 128 MB Radeon 9250 :(.

~Radeon 9600 Atlantis Pro 256Mb (Sapphire)
~Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
~ 80 gig HD @ 5400rpm (forget brand)

I get about 15-20 in zergs and normally about 50-60, but i have some freezing issues where the game will just lock up for a few seconds and then go back to normal, though that normally only happens in a zerg. Anything I should upgrade that would improve performance enough to make it worth the money??

EDIT: I have the settings on custom with non of the 32-bit graphics on and the cull animations is set to low

Your HD is to slow. They are rediciously cheap right now. Get something 7200/8meg cache with a fresh install of XP, DX, and Cat's and you will prolly smooth things out. Also check NforcersHQ (http://www.nforcershq.com/) for bios updates and settings for the NF7.

Also, are you running your ram and cpu in 1:1 sync? This gives much better performance on NF2 mb's. But your ram is a little slow, so don't know if your oc'ing it.

If I reinstall Windows XP, would that help at all?
Can anyone reccomend a motherboard (that's better than mine) that is around 60$?
