Usually I don't need PC help, but it never hurts to ask.

Recently I lost everything on my PC, no big deal I'm happy to lose all the problems, but, I have DSL. Well I HAD DSL, the modem is working, all the lights are on, I installed the Modem software, and then installed the Verizon DSL Software. Before I got around 150-200 but now I am getting 12mbps, SHIT son this is slow but I can live with it for a short time, any ideas?

As I scroll down my page is lagging if I lag on the internet, that's bad for gaming.

NEW PROBLEM:
My computer can not boot up without having the Windows Disk in, My Primary is the Hard Drive and Secondary is IDE-Disk Drive, so I'm pretty sure that's right. Since I can't boot up regularly or restart, I can't update things like DirectX, so no games.

Edit: I also have no sound... everything is connected.

Edit2: man I'm just all kinds of fucked up

If the internet page lags, that's your video card drivers.

You know, having lost everything and having to reinstall windows I should do some windows updates shouldn't I? :) Think that would fix it?

100-200mb is a goof in windows, so is 12, sort of, average dsl is 1.5.

Thats just windows or the software reading the connection to the the modem/router.

After a reformat, always reinstall drivers, in this order.

OS
Chipset
Video

About those windows updates, I can't boot my PC properly remember? So I can not restart normally so those updates will NOT work, this is strange.

Ok fixed the boot up process, but my Internet is still sucky as hell, damn 12 Mbps

EDIT: The above List I said, should fix most everything, if you dont install drivers in the right order, all kinds of odd things happen.

Is your computer lagging on anything else?

If so, when and why?

The PC is slower yes, like actions just take longer to do, I lag while playing Starcraft for god's sake, on SINGLE PLAYER! I can't play Multi player because the lag is unbareable, when I DL things I get around 10kbps, tops. Today I DLed some Vid card drivers as well, didn't help.

So clearly its not the internet.

And goes back to, what did you do when you reformatted it, why did it stop booting, and how did you "fix" it?

Shit, I would say reformat it again.

Thing you will need in order for it to run correctly:

Windows *install* cd
Vid card driver
sound driver
run windows update
get any anti spyware programs you want

It sounds to me like you havent installed anything yet.

Video card driver will fix your "lagging" I *just* reformated last night and was noticing the browser lagging as i was surfing to grab my driver.

Sound dosent work because you dont have the drivers installed :p

And the interenet issue..on the downstread are you saying its slower based on a number, or accuall performance? Because I have verizon dsl. And it sucks mancock.

NOOOOOOOO

Video drivers before Updates and chipset drivers always cause trouble, you need proper core functionality first, it will help you narrow down problems much easier. As you go along, you'll find out if the software included with drivers is causing issues.

INSTALL OS AND UPDATES
GET UP TO DATE MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET DRIVERS
GET UP TO DATE VIDEO CARD DRIVERS
GET UP TO DATE PCI CARD DRIVERS

if that doesnt help, you may have an over heating cpu/processor, bad ram any number of things, but if you are just "lagging" after a reformat, and didnt change any hardware, chances are its going to be something like we've mentioned above.

I am allowed to hijack threads, I am the admin.

I wouldent really count drawing in CAD as formal training hehe. My teacher let me go off course with CAD and do computers like I wanted to. If he didnt let me do that I probably would not be where I am now.

I know, I guess I kind of wrote it up wierd. It was a list of things he needed, not a procedure :p
