Can some computers have more than 2 slots for ram? can they have like 3 or 4.

whats the difference between an AMD proccesor, Athalon, Pentium? are they any better than eachother?

Most motherboards now have 4 slots for RAM.

I don't know a whole lot about AMD processors. I think AMD's are better for overclocking, and I know they're cheaper. But I have never bought anything besides Intel.

Amd's are cheaper and have one every year in head to head gaming comps. They are also harder and trickier. If I were you, I'd order from somewhere like monarch, and just pay them the extra money to build it for you.

AMD makes the athlon, celeron, and xp processors

Intel makes pentiums.

Intel uses brute force and power to get places, amd uses more cycles and better design.

Close. :)
AMD makes the Athlons, XP-Athlons, and "Durons'"
Intel makes the Pentiums and Celerons

so which one does everyone here prefer

AMD hands down IMO. Look at another thread of mine here, it's got my new systems specs.

Hands down, Intel chips.

I know of too many incompatabilites between high end sound equipment and AMD chipsets.

Great overclocked systems for both pentiums and athlons.

so athalons are crap? I thought everyone who built a computer uses one.

Hell no athlons aren't crap. Athlons and Pentiums are both very great processors. What mainly influences a choice between the two is the person's preference for either company.

AMD > intel. :D

AMD is way cheaper and is all about performance. :) Intel just pushes the big numbers to try to get people to buy them.

This OC'd intel system has a 18400 3dmark score... only $3000 lol

The system is called the Orion Behemoth. Overclocked P4 @ 3.57ghz, geil 512mb pc3500 ddr433 ram, intel 8450PE chipset mobo, 420w power supply. 120 gig HD and an overclocked Radeon 9700 pro running at 400/700 mhz.

lol I bet you could build that for half

Well I don't know about for half. Maybe for less than that but not half. I was doing some configuring of my own on a system that said it would get over 17,000 3dmark score and it totaled about $3000. That was with a 18in lcd monitor. The only difference was about .3 ghz in the oc'd cpu speeds maybe less.

I wish those flat monitors were cheaper.

Intel...

P4s run a lot cooler then Athlon XPs...so you get a more stable processor.

Yeah I got a 18in lcd and that was $500. The 20 in was like $1,499. Wtf is that?

Intel > AMD for sure, I have 2 AMD Xp's and an Intel P4, and after a lot of playing with both companies, I would have to say Im an Intel lover for stability.

If you've got stability problems with XPs youve got either a cooling problem or power supply problem. All new chip/sets are stable.

Yes both are very stable. The only difference is that AMD's get a bit hotter than P4s. If you have proper cooling it shouldn't be an issue at all.
