Think, never having to wait days if your order it online, or have to go to the store only to find out it's out of stock. NEVER HAVING A GAME OUT OF STOCK!

This is why I buy online
And it would be quicker waiting one day for delivery than having to download the sob.

Yep. This would also cut the huge cost of shipping to stores from warehouses for publishers. So I can't see why the hell they don't do it.

what about people who don't like the idea of putting thier credit card number online?

I doubt they'd *completely remove* the games from stores.

I bet they could get rid of alot of piracy if they do that. Lets face it, gamers are lazy, I myself have downloaded games because I didnt want to bother biking to the store, or waiting until the weekend to get a ride from my parents to EB. They make it easy to pay, and install, and its direct business right there. I Remember that savage did that, they let you download the game right for the site, and they e-mailed you the CD-key.

There would be a lot of issues for a lot of people... some people don't like using their credit cards online, others can not get hi-speed connections due to money or where they live or parents that just don't care what connection speed their children have (I'm lucky I have cable...) ...There'd be problems...

Then they buy it from the store, :S

They could just offer the service, and then for people who don't want to have their credit card number online, could simply go to the store and buy it. It's really a great idea.

I'm all for it, it would be great for my lazy ass... I'm just bringing up a few of the negatives...
Chewy... your sig... they aren't going to release the original cuts on DVD? I thought that was the original plan... :(
ChewyLSB
2004-08-04, 04:06 PM
Nope, they're releasing the Original Trilogy with lots of modifications to it that don't make any sense.

while its a fine idea and all, but it would also screw over the person that DLed it, say if they had to format, or their HDD went kaput. how would they go about redownloading it if they needed to? and how would the company make sure that this is the same guy downloading the game, and not his friend?
OfaLoaf
2004-08-04, 06:24 PM
Pay per download?
Everay
2004-08-04, 06:26 PM
who would want to pay 50 bucks twice? ergo its smarter to get it at the store because you have it permanetly, of course, that is if you forget the ability for said disks to be scratched, broken, or in general, unusable.
Dharkbayne
2004-08-04, 06:28 PM
Simple, you make an account on their site, and it keeps a record of your purchases, and you can download them again if you need to.
ChewyLSB
2004-08-04, 06:30 PM
I think what Everay is saying is, why can't a guy just buy the game online and download it, and then get someone else to sign in with their account, and download it to their PC as well?
Everay
2004-08-04, 06:30 PM
and the ability for one person to share said account with friends? how would they prevent that?

ummm, they didnt buy the game, and yet they get to play it fully, and also take up said companies bandwith, i dont think that would sit well with said company.

Nononono, I understand now... it's pay per download. The first guy (guy 1) would have to either:
[a] let his friend (Guy 2) d/l it and pay for it himself.
[b] charge Guy 2 for the download.
If Guy 1 didn't think he'd have to pay for it, yet shared his account and so got billed, Guy 1 is foolish.

The only way it would work is if you could download it as many times as you want when you pay for it once. That would serve the purpose of the CD, say if your computer crashes and you loose your hard drive data or something. People want to know that they can get the game they already payed for again for free. They could use the thing that the guy in the article mentioned. Have the game check the account key on the server to make sure that it is a legit user. That would keep people from sharing accounts.

No one has thought about the obvious? They send you however many .iso's and you burn them yourself?
Jaged
2004-08-04, 07:51 PM
Now that is a good idea. They could only let you download it once but strongly suggest you burn yourself a copy for backup.

What's to stop people from sharing a CD they bought from a store? Downloading is no different.
