I despise the PSR. Not all of them. Just certain broadcasters.

Last night I was kicked and banned from their channel. Why? Because I posted a link to a shoutcast stream. It was my shoutcast stream. The maximum number of people it can hold is very small due to my bandwidth. I do not see how this server could be seen as a threat. Hell, I had even been asked if I wanted to be a DJ for them the night before. I thought it would�ve been a good idea to post it in there so they can get a feel how I DJ. It�s also weird how I was able to post the link in there 7+ times without being warned. I wasn�t warned. I was just kicked and banned. I�m a reasonable person. That wasn�t reasonable. I�m annoyed.

I announce my hatred of the PSR on #ps-universe. I shortly get a PM later from Hopesdespair saying �You�re not a very nice person, are you?� but with typos. Now, I can tell you now that I�m a very nice person. I�m friendly; I always try to be friendly. But when people act like complete idiots, I find it hard to stay friendly. Like I said, I�m a reasonable person. What PSR did wasn�t reasonable.

The night before this incident, I was kicked from the PSR channel for having my name as �Hezzy|ON-AIR�. They told me to change my name. They didn�t ask me. They acted like they had some sort of jurisdiction over my name. I find this highly ironic. They kick and ban me from a channel for advertising, when they are on PSU IRC and wouldn�t hesitate to broadcast during an AGN stream. Isn�t that advertising in its own way? Needless to say, I was reasonable and changed my name back to Hezzy. Just for PSR. Because I�m a reasonable person.

I want a public apology from PSR.

Hamma and staff put PSU IRC up so the planetside community as a whole could have a dedicated IRC server. That way you wouldn't have Outfits and others making rooms on a multitude of IRC servers. Or so that's my impression. :)

Right, here's the official response.

Since Hezzy has put forward his side of the story, I think it's only fair that we put forward ours. People can then decide who to believe.

First the 'On-Air' incident. Hezzy is mistaken in his belief that he was 'told' to change his name. According to Delta and those in the channel at the time, Hezzy was asked to change his name because it would confuse listeners. Those with the On-Air tag get sent requests and that meant that requests might not reach their intended destination. He was asked to change, politely, he did not. He was then kicked by Delta, who then apologized, as did HopesDespair for as they put it 'over-reacting'. Hezzy left of his own accord a little later on.

Secondly, the advertising. When PSR was first set up, we took great care to avoid stepping on AGN's toes. I knew for a fact that we'd receive flak for being a radio station, based upon the mistake belief that each MMO is only allowed a single internet radio station. However we carried on anyway, because we wanted to do it. I personally have been doing both Shoutcast and real radio-waves stuff for the last 3 years and wanted to get back on the air and have some fun. I spoke to Marsman at length to make sure we weren't treading on anyone's toes and that we could co-exist peacefully. As regards to competing with AGN, we even offered to relay the Ask the Devs and Community Night to save them bandwidth and allow our listeners to tune in to the great programming with ease. We have nothing but respect for the work of Hamma, Marsman and all the PSU staff and we've made that blindingly clear on several occassions.
However.. since we don't advertise in #agn out of respect for AGN, we would expect others to afford us the same courtesy. #PSR is our channel and it's sole purpose is for discussion of PSR programming. Advertising other streams in there, whatever they might be is not on. We have permission to advertise in the PSU channel, as long as we keep it in sensible moderation, which we do at all times. While Hope should have given Hezzy a warning before banning him, which as far as I'm aware he didn't do, the fact remains that Hezzy was advertising in our channel. No-one was forcing him to be in there and the op in question did what he felt was appropriate in the situation. I am not going to apologize for that ops actions, if he wishes to do so then he can, but I won't speak for him.

Now we comes to the bit that kinda narked me off a little, these 'PSR thinks they own the place' comments. Tagging up with PSR- does not constitute owning the place and it never will. I have never once seen any PSR team-member make any comments to this effect and I hope I never will. If they do, please report them to me and I'll deal with them. Until that time though, this sort of stuff is just baseless muck-spreading. It was predictable that we'd have some anti-PSR people, it always happens. The fact however remains, we're enjoying doing it and the listeners are enjoying listening to it so we aren't going to stop doing it any time soon.

As Ivan mentioned, PSU-IRC was intended for use by the Planetside community. Since we all play Planetside and set up this station to entertain the Planetside community, I believe we have just as much right to be on PSU-IRC as everyone else does. There is no 'You must post on the forums' requirement in order to use PSU-IRC and if you believe we've broken some network rule then you should have taken it up with Hamma. Otherwise, muck-spreading on the forums is simply childish, as is turning what was a minor incident, into your own personal crusade which not only contained inaccurate descriptions of the incident, but also contained some baseless assertions and downright fallacies which border on defammation. We are not out to piss off anyone, tread on anyone's toes or assert ownership of anyone or anything. This whole unfortunate incident was a molehill that's been blown into a mountain and quite frankly I find it immature, unreasonable and irresponsible, as was the trolling, spamming and insults which followed my attempted conversation with Hezzy. I would appreciate it if those responsible (who were handily enough disguised behind pseudonoms) would stay out of #PSR in teh future, since you are not interested in the station and we're not interested in you.

Let me make a quick comment here. When PSR started they talked to Marsman and we all agree'd that it was not a problem for PSR to be around. I for one applaud the community activities that anyone does.

When I started PSU back around 2 years ago there was a wonderful (not) community called PlanetSide.info who wanted nothing to do with me or my site. I tried and tried to become a member of their "click" to make PSU popular but it never worked out. In the end I ended up working with Sony and creating our own identity.

Now that PSU is the big site in town I do not want other starting out to suffer the same fate that I did. Everyone is welcome here at PSU and I pride myself on that. If not for this community starting up, I would not be here.

Let's be accepting of new things, not push them away.,

Don't bash PSR unless you've listened it to for a good couple hours and have gotten a taste of what they are all about.

Sorry about what happened to you Hezzy but I think you took it all a bit too seriously. HopesDespair got defensive because he was just starting PSR and the PSU community started out very hostile towards it. Not cool. You guys are WAY too quick to judge something you haven't listened too. I was skeptical of PSR at first as well but I've come to love it and now I'm on staff as a Scripter.

PSR is aimed at the PS community as a whole, not PSU. Since PSU is the best PS fansite, they started a #PSR channel on PSU IRC. Sure they don't post on these forums. They use the IRC channel merely for feedback and requests.

I know you all love AGN (as do I) but I think you guys are thinking that PSR is trying to compete with it, and its really not. PSR = PlanetSide web radio (ie music shoutcast), AGN = PlanetSide Discussion and Dev Interviews shoutcast. Two entirely separate entities. How about you open up your mind a little bit before you condemn anything new that pops up on PSU or PSU IRC.

Now you see. That's the logs. I wasn't asked. I was kicked. Delta was not specific enough, so I didn't have a clue what he was on about, since I wasn't activly watching the channel. I love the way you said I left of my own accord. You perhaps hint at me leaving in a furious rage. In the actual fact I parted for about 10 minutes (I can't remember why.) and then rejoined. I see that it could possibly confuse listeners. I apologise for that. But, I don't like the way you've said the segment quoted above TB. You paint me as an unfriendly and unreasonable person. Which, if you ask anyone, I'm sure they will say I am. After all, I DO eat babies. Don't forget kick old women down the stairs. Like Dharkbayne. I was under the impression that HopesDespair was the leader of PSR. He asked me if I wanted to DJ for PSR a previous night. I thought by posting my stream in PSR, I could help speed the decision of me being a competent DJ enough, and possibly provide a test stream for wannabe DJs.
I admit that I over-reacted. I apologise for that. I shouldn't of posted this on PSU.

I will not endorse PSR, nor will I boycott PSR.
