Eh? I know IBM is saying not to download it to their employees, as they need to configure their 'netware and such, but other than that I've not heard anything else negative. Can we get some more info pleases?

Well I ALWAYS wait a month before downloading SPs... I think Corrosion downloaded it and couldn't even get to the Log On screen for windows... he had to format and such...

what's wrong with it exactly? Just something in it designed to rape comps or just borkness?

BTW, I have a vendetta against linux for defamation of character of penguins.

corrosions computer got fucked because he probally didnt pay for XP, judging from his track record that is.

and one of the neat little features about this SP is that it fucks your computer if you have a cracked version.

I didn't read this entire thread so I dunno if it has been said, but:

Most of the people whining that SP2 breaks their computer is because they are using illegal versions of WinXP. SP2 will disable illegal versions of XP.

I deal with this crap all day long, I always tell our customers NEVER to install such big SP's until at least a month later. It's just good practice, I cant wait to start getting calls about people who hosed their systems.

wow, reading that 'fixes' list was informative... i'm familiar with a lot of the things they changed but didn't realize they were bugs.

I have a legit copy. Well. Legit as they come.

I reformatted, but lost my copy of XP pro. So, I had to borrow an XP home cd from a friend. however, it was like "OMFG PLZ REGISTAR OR BE PWND LOL!" So, I had to use my Linux-Loving-Friends Never-used key to reg. w00t.

And I dont need no stinkin' Service pack.

Here's a friend of mine's experience:
So feeling adventurous (or stupid, I still dont know) I installed SP 2 for XP. A almost 300 MB file... It starts by telling you to backup your system, as would be expected. Hitting next makes the thing start going, so I walked off and come back 5 minutes later and it says "backing up file..." so I walk away again, and come back.... 15? 20? or so minutes later and it asks me to reboot, so I do so, apon reboot its like xp was reinstalled, with those childish setup screens on a fresh install only it was asking about installing the firewall, so once again I said sure and it did something, I dont know what. XP starts up and a setup screen comes up telling me that I have the firewall installed, automatic updates running, but is pissed because I dont have antivirus software running. how would they know if i was running it or not? anyway, I get rid of the screen, play around for a while and got to start to shut down, and to my surprize most of my start menu is missing and i cant get to the rest of the network. so i reboot, and all but
2 icons are gone off the desktop, that setup screen appears.. again, and it wants me to take a tour of XP, like a fresh install. start menu is back though! i'm still thinking about taking that XP tour, maybe there's free drinks....

This isn't part of those "automatic updates" is it? This is something you actually have to go and DL right?

Cause if it's part of the Automatic Update, I'm probably fucked because I don't ever register my copies of windows (haven't since 95) cause I'm a pretty private/paranoid person.

My comp is legit all the way down To MS office, nothing happend to me except that the firewall made Enemy Territory crash once, but that was an Easy fix. Iit gave me better FPS in Planetside too.

Thought it is basicaly a new install of XP + games, havent doen any tweaks or stuff scence i reformated.

I never register either, you don't need to at all, you just need a CD key and you need to activate, but all that does is make sure the CDkey is not in uses someware else already. registering is a different thing, thats telling them your name and Address and stuff.

Phew, I'm cool then. Although I've got no freaking clue where my CD is.

That being said, when was it released? I've got it Downloaded, but I didn't notice anything different when I started up today, so unless it came down today and stealth DL'd it works fine for me.

I doubt you can uninstall SP2, and it just came out in the passt several days.
