Hey there. Ive only recently heard of Planetside for the first time, but it seems really decent. Thing is, Im not new to MMOs, and I now will never sign up for one unless Ive trialed/beta'd it, not worth the hassle otherwise in case I dont enjoy it.

Are there any free trials going on at the moment? I saw the fileplanet.com one, but that was closed, the only other thing I can see is that "Recruit a Buddy" thing on the game's frontpage. Is that anything like the Buddy Keys for SWG? and if yes, any chance someone could mail/PM me one? Cant wait to try the game.

Cheers.

The Fileplanet one is open until September 8th, 30 days free. They link to it from the Planetside front page.

That requires me to pay $9.99, on my credit card. Thats the point, Im not putting my details online with SOE until Im sure I enjoy the game, they wouldnt stop charging me for SWG for three months after I cancelled.

I believe that even the old buddy keys they had required you to enter your CC info before they would activate. If you buy the game and have 30 free days you have to enter CC info to activate. I've cancelled and restarted more times than I'd admit, and I've never had an issue with them overcharging. Sounds like bad luck.

In answer to your question, though, I don't think they have any buddy keys any more. They gave them away when the game originally shipped, but $10 for the game and a month of play is a smoking deal.

Aye I suppose, Im just not a big fan of SOEs horrific lack of support for European customers, they seem even less eager to help when they're making money from it.

Ill give it a try, but if the bastards overcharge me again I think Ill sue them, just for fun.

Anyway. Quick question: how customisable are the controls in Planetside? ie, can I remap whatever the default flight controls are to my 'stick?

Currently there is no joystick support, but they are working on it. For now it's just keyboard/mouse for flying.

Really? Hmm, thats pretty daft, I cant stand using keyboard and mouseand I love flying.....

I suppose Ill just have to manage, but how is it possible to dogfight properly when your stuck with a mouse controlling pitch and roll?

The free buddy thing is fucked up. I have ful copy with a little round paper disk that says it has a key on the back and to lend your disks to a freind. But its just blank on the back! 8\

FLying in PS, is kind of like flying a helo, only simpler, you have strait Up/down controls froward, backward and side to side(strafe) then using the mouse you can contol direction(if's you've played RTCW:ET and gone in spectator thats basicaly what it's like)

Buddy keys are offered through the planetside.com website. There is a link to them on the home page.

Download the game from here (http://www.download.com/PlanetSide-Free-30-Day-Trial/3000-7453-10249637.html?tag=lst-0-1) and ask someone to grant you a buddy key.

Thanks, Ill download that later on(broadband modem is down for two hours, Im stuck on my 56k internal. "essential upgrades" my ass, I bet some gormless workman drilled through the cables again).

So can anyone here do me a favour and send me a buddy key? [email protected] is my email.

Cheers.

Ah, nice one Hezzy, Ill give that a shot when the DL finishes. One hour to go, woot, I think Im going to enjoy this.

Oh yes, one last question. In case I do decide to buy the game, can anyone recommend some dedicated tread-heads on the European server(Werner?) that I can group with? Seeing as theres no 'stick support, Id rather follow my second largest FPS passion and blast people into tiny bits with MBTs :D

Which empire?

Cauldron Borne

NC: Easy Mode
VS: Moderate-hard
TR-Emerald: hard as fuck mode

JOIN THE TR-E! WE WILL PREVAIL! DIE NC BASTARDS! ARRRR!

(disclaimer: i play all three empires and love them all, this is a JOKE. try to understand that, potential flamers)

Well after playing as all three empires(on each server), I think I like NC best, I really like the look of the Vanguard tank. So can anyone recommend a tank-heavy outfit for NC-Werner?

HAHAHA, I think I can predict the future.

I enjoyed the game very much yesterday, so decided, just for the hell of it, to take advantage of the Gamespy offer of 30 days for $9.99. Yay! Signed up, entered code, subscribed and it says I have a month left! Woot!

You're really unlucky dude. Try again after a day, when they've got everything uodated. Oh, and if you're still on 56k when you DO get access to the game, enjoy the day long download of new patches.

Hey I had the same problem and I talked to a Customer Service Rep and he told me I had to edit my billing info. Meaning I had to subscribe for an additional month in order to activate my account . But you can still cancel before the month is out and avoid paying that additional 12.99, so its all good :fro:

Here are the steps that were given to me to do this:

1. First go to www.planetside.com, and click on My Account and sign in.
2. Next choose Billing Info at the top left in blue text.
3. Next select Subscriptions on the left of the page.
4. Next select Planetside.
5. Next select Edit subscription. (actually I think our button read something different but it is the second button so you can't miss it)
6. You will have three choices Credit Card, Global Collect, and Game Card. Select one option and input the billing information.

Hope this helps!

Well you could also use this little install program to get the game direct from the PS Patch Server ;P
