BUGGER

(mind you i'm talking bout the game, not movie)
The first one, Gold Edition. I decided to install it again, but i got a problem. Very bad fps, lag lag lag. When its a older game than planetside and you lag more in that than in ps, that usualy means somethings wrong.
The 2nd disk is practicly a music cd so i could play it in my boombox, it does nothing while playing the game besides add music to the levels.
I turned all the graphics really low and i still get bad lag.
Help plz.

the new drivers for you video card proably don't optomize for the AVP rendering engine anymore, or there are bugs for it now, it's an old game, get older versions of you drivers

video card drivers. they fix any problem you might have with your video card, plus they boost performance. get it from the website of whatever video card you have (ATI or Nvidia)

I THINK he means you can no longer quote someone without adding new text. I could be wrong since I don't have any prior experiance communicating with the autistic.

I just got hold of AvP Gold today actually and I'm battling with various issues, including a bodged install, problems with the Fox interactive movie sound looping, loading problems and like you said, bad frame lag. I'll look for a solution and post it if I find one, since it's supposed to work with XP.

Right click > Properties > Compatibility > Windows 98
might help
Why don't you just convert it to the XP format, that's what I did. All you have to do is convert the video standards and bam, everything works! As for the install process, you just have to tuff it out like the rest of us.
Edit: Also, you can download emulators off of Kazaa for it, but I don't reccomend that.

Not really an explanation as such. Telling us what those video formats might actually be and how to convert them would be useful though.

Ok, not a perfect solution, but here goes.
To stop the movie and loading problems, you need to replace binkw32.dll with a different version. Apparently an older version, 164kb in size can make teh movies work, but I couldn't find it, so I replaced it with a newer version. This will break and thus skip the movies, stopping the sound looping and loading problems. The options screen will look a bit wierd, with odd green distortion in teh background, but it works, so that's not really a major issue.
The framelag is to do with Full Screen antialiasing. Turn it off under the OpenGL settings off your videocard. This fixed it for me. It does not use Direct3d, so changing those settings won't make a difference
I'll keep looking for a more complete solution, but as a stopgap, this seems to work nicely.

Bit more info for those who want in on a possible multiplayer game.
1) For those with Vanilla AvP, you need the mpavp.exe file available from Fileplanet. It's easiest to connect through gamespy. Also you need Build98, the only patch they released for it. Link Gamespy to mpavp.exe rather than avp.exe
2) Routers can be a problem we're working on a solution to that
3) AvP Gold is not backwards compatible with AvP. AvP can be 'acquired' however, for those of you with AvP Gold using a rather well known bittorrent source ;)
