Anyone one know what any of the merits do? I have only soon the 1 year merit and thats all... Has anyone soon any other merits. It would also be cool if someone could name the merits and what they will do if u equip em.

The rest of the merits have not been implemented yet. ETA is after the BFR's. Yay acronyms!

They do nothing. The 1 year merit *may* make the CoF on your weapons smaller, but that's not been done yet. The others just look pretty.

Where the hell did you hear that? So people that have been playing longer get better accuracy? That would benefit me but I think that would suck.

Well, the entire basis of the Merits suggest that perks like this will be common. What else will they reward you with when it comes to getting commendations for being good at killing people as a grunt? It would be kind of tricky to reward grunts in a fashion that accentuates their proficiency if the rewards amount to nothing when deciding the effectiveness of that individual in combat.

I haven' heard ANYthing about Merit Comendation afecting how one plays. I only thought they woudl be like medals.

Merit Commendations for the short term will simply be medals. Long term merits either on their own or grouped will give access to advanced abilities which are also yet to be finalised.

But considering this is an absolute about-face from what the Devs have been telling us from Day 1 of this game, I'm curious to see exactly how it shakes out. Their big thing has always been that the BR20 vet has no true advantage over the BR1 newb and that they liked it that way. That they didn't want it to be Everquest-ish in that manner. Now they seem to be reversing direction in a big way. These commendations have a distinct possibility of really driving a wedge between vets and new players.

Depends on the severity of the advanced abilities. And possibly a reason why they're taking so long over their design.

As Lartnev said, initially they'll be medals, later on they'll give you benefits.

Everquest has a really strong pull with a lot of people. I always thought it inevitable that they'd make the game EQ-ish in the character advancement regard. Merit commendations only reaffirm their change of direction since Beta.

After they're out, you'll gain access to new equipment and abilities. Plus, it's a way to show that you're truely skilled at something. Social Currency.

But you still *will* be able to kill a br20 even though your br1. There is just plain skill that you pick up. Obviously if someone gets the jump on you, you will typically die no matter what. I think in order to keep the older players around for themax amount of time, they should be getting something besides a pretty ribbon. I for one am a full supporter of new elite abilities. Specially since people have all started recording at the same time. It will be fun, admit it. Who doesnt want to show off and gain benefits of killing some odd thousands with a Beamer. Come on, you know you do.

"Obviously if someone gets the jump on you, you will typically die no matter what." Sadly... thats not always the case, for me at least =/

Even now the chances of a BR3 (limited to something like: MA/Agile/eng/0 implants) being able to take down a BR20 (with HA/Rexo/eng/med/3 implants) in a straight fight are next to zero, not to mention the advantage of having deep experience and knowledge of the game. Sure its not EQ but by the same token, its not counterstrike either. Battlerank matters

This is true. Between implants and more numerous certs, a BR1 really has no chance. The game was never totally "fair" between BR disparities to begin with, it was just never really all that major. So they're not going back on principle, because it's been this way to begin with. They're merely taking it up a notch, to make it a more prominent and obvious part of the gameplay.

Well I support avenues of post BR20 advancement and perhaps some merit enhancements because I am a niche player and would love to be able to customize as a result of my hard efforts in this game
