View Full Version : iPod vs. Digital Camera
Alright, though my net connection is craptastic, seeing as I'm in the land of 56k (South of Myrtle Beach). I decided I needed to drop by with a query, and it is this: If you had the option, of receiving a Digital Camera, I'm not sure of what make currently, or an iPod, both free of charge, which would you take?

Well, I'd get an iRiver, but if not an option, i'd go for the iPod. I use my mp3 player a LOT more than my camera.
Are there any retail stores that carry those? i.e. Wal-Mart?

iPod, because I might be able to sucker my parents out of a Canon PowerPro 1 camera for 700 dollars, that and iPods are a great status item.

Best Buy carries iRivers, I believe.
It really depends on what you prefer. I would pick the digital camera only because I find myself taking pictures more than listening to music on the go, but I would pick the iPod if I were an audiophile. So just pick the one you would enjoy using the most.

iPod is great entertainment everywhere you go. Cameras cant do that, they are cool but I actually have both and my iPod is now like a part of me its that cool.

Okay then, I say get a digital camera. Carrying around music is less important (in my opinion) than having the capability to take pictures of whatever whenever.

But go for the iPod between the 2.

Digital Camera, i use it much more than my iPod. But i <3 my iPod so much. Hard decision.
I'd say go for a digicam, Get a Canon Powershot A-Series. Shoot for the A-80 if you got the cash, or an A-60/70, they are cheap now.

How cares who made it as long as it is a superior product. I am running windows and I hate ms. (Not saying windows is superior in any way, just more games.)

Im certainly not saying that the iPod is bad. Not at all. its a great product (tho put out by a horrible company). I jsut think that the iRiver is a BETTER product and you should at least consider it.

Hag, sluttly little sister, thats great.
Anyways. I recently found out you can save .txt files to your iRiver also, and read them on the screen. Plus the remote is quite handy. The leather protection case actually has a belt loop on it so you can attach it to your belt. Not to mention you can enable the optical out jack and hook up a second set of headphones if someone else wants to listen too. Cant forget about the WOW equalisation, god it rules.

Features:
Plays over 600 hours of digital music So does the ipod.
Up to 16 hours of battery life 4 more then ipd, i have to give you that.
Supports MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV and OGG music files So does the ipod.
Ultra-fast USB 2.0 transfers (up to 40 times faster than USB 1.0) The new 4th gen ipods ome with USB 2.0 and firewire in the box.
Integrated FM tuner You can get an add on for the ipod if you really care about that.
Backlit remote control with 4-line display Ipod has a remote, but no screen.
Built-in voice recorder Again, Ipod has it in an add on pack.
Intuitive music navigation Cmon, ipod invented this. You can't argue with its scroll wheel.
Real-time MP3 encoding (no PC required) I don't know what this is so i cant talk about it.
20GB of internal storage Ipod has 40 and 20 gig modles
Store or transfer files of any type Ipod did this first.
Extra-large, 8-line, backlit LCD Ipod has a better display.
Rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery Ipod has it.
Optical input and output Why do you need it when you have usb 2.0?
Upgradeable to future formats and features YOu bet your ass ipod has this.
I will admit the ipod's list of features is slightly inferior. That is not the ipods strong point. What it lacks there it makes up for in beauty and joy of use. Go to a store and play with an ipod and an iriver for a few min and you will start to see why its worth it.

I've played with corrs plenty, thanks. Ill take my iriver any day.
how it looks just isnt that important to me.
add ons cost money. and you cant buy a "pack" of them, so its prolly around $20 each (just a guess, based on nothing) item.
Real time encoding, and input/output means that you can hook up a friends music device, and record straight to the HD. I've copied a song I liked off a friends CD player before that way. iriver comes in 40gb too. The lights on the displays themselves are pretty much equal (tho i often find myself blinded by the iriver light late at night) I prefer the actual information shown on the display better however. We all know what the ipod battery has been accused of (ipodsdirtylittlesecret.com or whatever), and so far the iriver has had no problems like that (of corse it hasnt been out as long, but still...)
iriver needs that program (itunes?) to transfer files back and forth. the iriver is basicly an external HD when its plugged in. I ALWAYS use it to back up files when I format.
its as simple as plug in - drag and drop - unplug - format - plug in - drag and drop again, and im done. the ipod would need drivers from itunes if Im correct.
ipod does upgrade its software, but theyd rather you bought the "next generation" ipod, instead of putting these updates out every few months.
Another thing, Corr's ipod broke a LONG TIME AGO. At least 2 months. (it was at the end of school corr, remember how you could listen to K&B with me at PE once you borrowed my cd player?) He sent it to Apple to have it repaired, and still hasnt gotten it back. What kind of company makes you wait Months for a repair?
another thing Jag, have YOU ever tryed an iriver? take your own advice and borrow one. just trying it for 5 min, youll get lost and confused. the iriver is a bit more complicated, but makes up for it with what you can do. took me about a day and a half to really learn how to use it.
The iriver certainly isnt for everyone. But i think that anyone here with half a brain will keep an open mind when looking for a mp3 player. Especially when your (or someone else) is going to spend $300 on this thing.
edit:
Nah, my parents are fucking poor lol, they just got the ipod for me cause its also a combination of my b-day present and my surgery shit.
EDIT: They arent poor, but they arent rich.
thats it? I had 2 birthdays, 1 hanukkah, and a "congrats on good grades" gifts saved up, and this counted as all of them.
It was EASILY worth it tho. I'm pretty much attached to my IR at the ... well at the pocket. ( Hell, I took the damn thing with me when me and corr went to a water park)

The key words here, is that shit comes standard.
If I was to blow insane amounts of money on a music player, I would definatly go for the iriver.
But, im not insane, so ill upgrade my computer with the money instead :D

Hmm, that direct music transfer thing sounds cool. So do you just plug the iriver into a cd player and take the songs right off of it? I assume it comes with a cable with 2 male connectors for that. The iriver may not be so bad after all.
EineBeBoP
2004-08-17, 07:48 PM
It dosent transfer the input as data. You basicly hit play on the cd player, stick one end of the cable into the headphone jack, and the other end into the digital in. it then records whatever comes in. Takes a bit, but nice feature to have.
