Your state's gun control laws allow you to own an M1 Garand? Mine doesn't (New Jersey).

the garand for me is... ehh...
my question, is do you know how to fly a RC plane? if not, your likely to crash it soon after getting it, and then what do ya have to show for it?
I say get the PC parts. it seems like the safest bet atm.

no, i dont, but what i can say is, launch into wind, dont point the nose up or straight down, and glide her in for the landing. and besides, its amazing how powerful these lil engines are when compaired to the weight of the plane, and the plane itself with all the parts will weigh only 15 pounds. so as long as i dont crash it into anything, and there is a huge feild nearby, ill be okay.

Texas Chewy! Texas!!!! at least i dont think there is a law against it, so long as its not a automatic weapon, hell, they sell a Thompson SubMachine gun somewhere on the outskirts of town called 9MM And Weapons, or something like that. so long as im above 18 i can get a rifle, not a pistol though, that i need a background check, but the rifle should be over the counter, and im buying it off the net at
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm
to be truthful, ill be getting all of these at one time or another, just your helping the order.

Ah, didn't know that. Here, we can't own a gun that:
- Has a clip capacity over 10 (that axes 90% of them right there)
- is semi-automatic (I'm not exactly clear on this one.)
I was talking to a police officer the other day, and he said an M1 Garand was illegal in NJ unless you were in a hunting club or similar thing like that, but a Colt 1911 was fine (which was why the "no semiautomatics" law confused me). I don't know the exact specifics of the law, though.

Only 15 pounds? That's pretty damn heavy for an RC plane with an electric motor, because if it really is 15 pounds, that thing won't be going very far....

Your going to spend a whole lot more than 500 Dollars on a Garand even if you get it from the CMP.
A Garand's Cartridge Capacity is only 8. Maybe it could be beacuse of the Garand's range?

PC bits. Where would you use the Garand? And RC requires alot of time and care.

^Yeah it's only illegal a bit.

That's what confused me. I'm not exactly sure of all the gun law restrictions... so...

Wasn't it that stupid assault weapons ban that made it illegal to have weapons with clips over 9? The one where you can't get an M16, but you could buy a FAL and it'd be just fine.

None of the above.
Save it. Earn some more, then invest it. Mess around with some speculative stocks, pray that they don't go bust, then cash in when you hit the big time.
Repeat until you have the cash for a BMW M5.

Well, they go from ok to very worn conidition. These arent new Rifles, something could very well go wrong with it. My dad has a Garand its new and composite it may very well be fine too. Just some food for thought. The ammo isnt expensive, its 30-06. Some of the cartridges may be expensive or hard to come by. I think CMP sells that too.

Wasn't it that stupid assault weapons ban that made it illegal to have weapons with clips over 9? The one where you can't get an M16, but you could buy a FAL and it'd be just fine. You can still own and buy pre-ban weapons as far as I know. They just can't make new ones. Could be wrong.

well, ive decided, that if im gonna get the gun, ill buy it from a store in town that has a shooting range, rather than get it from CMP, reason is the same as bio stated, i dont want a old gun thats all beat up, i want something i dont have to worry about getting fubared real soon, as replacing the barrel was priced at 500 dollars, or so i was told. the rifle ill buy in town will cost about 1.3K, thats fine, ill pay 500 dollars tommorow, and finance the rest, they also have a range in that place. that is of course my folks lemme, and ill try to get em to let me.
Martyr, 7.62 or 30-06?

500$ is one thing but 1300$...you might want to think hard about spending that much on a gun at your age. You might be regretting it down the road a few years.

M1 Garand, by far. Like hell it's illegal, it is not applicable to the restrictive Assault Weapons ban:
An "Assault Weapon" is defined by having a detatchable magazine (Garand doesn't have it) and two or more of the following:
-Flash Hider/Muzzle Brake
-Bayonet Mount
-Pistol Grip
-Grenade Launcher.
The M1 Garand is a RIFLE. It should be perfectly legal.

I will answer your question: .30 M1906 beats the crapples out of 7.62x51 NATO (a smaller, lighter version of the .30).

i see, well, i will be shooting the rifle, IF i get it, and IF i do, ill have to have premission from my folks, every weekend, as there is a range down the street from me, literaly, mabey 3 or 4 miles, i could jog that, exercize, go by a case of ammo, shoot it, run home. but i think that ill have to store the rifle there. and i know my dad doesnt think getting a rifle is a good idea for me to do, waste of money in his opinion. and my mother doesnt understand why i want to get a rifle.
lemme ask you all a question, more specificly, gun owners. What is the attraction to guns you have?
AztecWarrior
2004-08-17, 08:43 PM
What is the attraction?
Why do I enjoy guns?
1. Fun to shoot.
2. A test of skill.
3. A hobby.
4. Responsibility/discipline.
5. The gun itself.
I'm getting ready to dump about $1k on my computer, basically buying everything new but the drives, keyboard/mouse, and monitor. I highly suggest you do the same.
