Well the local electronics store is carying one of the things i will be in possession of soon at the recommended retail price so it's time to make the desission:
ATI X800pro http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0174327
Xtasy X800pro http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0174480
or
e-geforce 6800GT http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0177220
Pick it based on benches and brand names, I'm mostly leaning to the ATI x800 but the 6800gt seems to be more technologicaly advanced, not that it matters much as my system will bottleneck at the CPU/Ram anyway.

GT for the win.

The BBA X800 Pro's at CompUSA, if recent stock, seem to be mostly Vivo's and soft modding to XT's nicely. Its still a shot in the dark if you'll get the other 4 pipes to open up though. And if you get stuck with a stock one, ugh. Man those bench's suckkkkk. I'd return it and eat the restock fee, then defintely buy a GT. I'll prolly be looking tommorow to pick up something... which i'm not sure. We just got a Fry's this weekend, and they have GT\Ultras. No XT's or Pro's though. That store is my new heaven though.

i also have another card to add to the list, its a 6800 regular, it cost $100 less than all the three up there. See the thing is do i realy want to spend $400 if my CPU will bottleneck the $300 one. I also was in the store yesterday and saw it, I couldn't find the other, but i didn't look to hard it was probaly in the lock display case.

If your running at 3ghz, it shouldn't be a real bottlekneck for most games. Except games your pushing over 200 fps in. It defintely won't be for a 6800, ugh, wouldn't touch that thing ever. Makes a Pro even look good.
You got a 2.8c same as me, you can't get it to crank higher? Thing should live at 3.2+ all day long.

I can get it up to 3.4 but the fan noise is ridiculuos and windows like to chash alot, but i reformated and should be running a more stable comp alltogether now, today i'm exparamenting to see what i can hit.
I think it may be the 6800GT for me, also dale its not like the reg 6800 doesn't beat evey other GFX card out there except X800pro/XT's and 6800GT/Ultra's
EDIT: I'm running it at 3.15 not 2.93 as show earlier, I'm gona go do my HW and mess with it in PS, see if 3.4 will be stable for long term.(i use this comp to watch TV and do Homework ect. i'f it's unstable in anyway it frustrates me greatly)
I'd get the 6800 and save $100. But thats just me.

The 6800 does fine, as long as you play at 1024x768 with NO AA/AF. Crank it to a higher res or turn some options up and it bogs down to around 9700 Pro speeds. Just so ya know.

People with X800 XTPE's and 6800 Ultra's :)
Actually I do it now in CoH because it actually makes a huge difference because I play on a widescreen now, before it wasn't to bad.

Geezus thats expensive for a silencer... seen most of them go for $30 or so. With shipping, tax, etc. It would be almost better to just buy a Ultra lol.

you can OC them to near Ultra speed without any extra cooling anyway

True it would be near ultra speeds but I dont like it when my computer melts. Thats what I did for my computer I now have an ultra thanks to that fan but I had to get a job just for that.

Got an X800 Pro yesterday. Had the magical SKU I was looking for so thought what the hell. I opened the box, saw the vivo cables and was very pleased. Looked at the board, and has the yellow connector on the rear of the card. Sweet. Checked the ram on both sides of the card, 1.6 ns! W00t!
Haven't flashed it yet, as after installing it I lost my magical 1280x720 HD resolution.... grrrrr. Spent a few hrs working on that and gave up... man having a wide screen is nice but a major pain sometimes. Hopefully can get it back today, then see how this thing cranks up. At default speeds though I did put it through a quick DM3 bench... I was not impressed though

not impressed, it's still going to be better than what you had before
The freaking GT. At stock speeds it DEMOLISHES a X800 PRO anyway. The 6800 GT is the hottest hardware to come out of NVidia in years.

GT is way better then the ultra which is $500~$550 plus you get put on a list were 10 people are randomly picked per week to get one.
The GT is $400~$450 + $20~$40 fan to oc it to the same exact thing as the ultra.

Actually the Pro only hit like 34 fps at 1024x768 with high settings in dm3 at 2.8 on my cpu. My 9800 Pro was almost the same speed, 32fps with same settings. I've now flashed the gigabyte bios opening up the other 4 pipes and then the final xt bios and set speeds to 525 core / 560 mem. This is stable for gaming and no locks, but 3dmark is still crashing out late into test, so something still up. Tempatures are very nice and cool, 38 or so idle, 60's at load. Now getting about 46 fps at 3.2 ghz, so defintely better. Not that big a deal, as dm3 is not its game. Cranked up some Tribes Vengance and its through it like buttah baby. Very pleased overall with the card, can't wait for some hl2 on it.
