okay I figured this all out the other day when I was babysitting for a few hours for a neighbors kid. He decides he wants to watch TV since he's never seen a flatscreen TV before and immediatly goes for nickoldeon if thats how you spell it. Well that channel sure as hell has changed from mindless/semi funny cartoons that you could zone out on when you were ages 3-9. Its turned into this retarded teeny bopper pre teen bullshit channel that fully supports all the crappy pop music. Then I realized that its owned by the same company that controls MTV. So to insure that they'll keep a constant steady stream of viewers to MTV that have MTV-kids! Once the kids hit 10 or 11 they graduate up to MTV where they are further indulged in crap until they wake the fuck up.

It has been like that for ages, back in my day we had GI.Joe and transformers... now all the kids have are shows that make them worship false gods, eventually they become major consumers who enrich the very people who brainwashed them. They get shows like "barbie super duper island fun" where the main character is shown buying too much crap... they give the example and the kids follow.
If this continues our society is gonna be a bunch of one brainless mass that follows everything that's "In" according to britney or some other blonde puppet that uses her body to make money. It's already happening... look around you... I have seen 13 year old girls running around in mini skirts and low rise jeans, I have heard 15 year olds saying "I want breast implants!" or "I'm a pimp beyotch!".
Hell I even have a 16 year old cousin that want to be a freaking hip-hop dancer when she gets out of high school. It's pathetic...

Ren and Stimpy
Rocko's Modern Life
Shelby Woo (kidding here, it was a hilariously racist show without trying to be, and she always got the shit cases of like missing fondue sets)
Doug
Pete n' Pete
The list goes on, but man, oldschool Nick was great because it had juvenille appeal while still being engaging enough for an older audience. Fuck Viacom or whoever currently owns it.

I ramble on about shit like this in software developement and about hardware developement with the P1s and you call me nuts!!! Just remember the people that did that, and started restricting game design within software companies, are the exact same people that launched themselves into the normal corperate world and got ahold of these companies and therefore TV stations! 8) And are probably stilll some of the CURRENT owners or heads of the damn channels operations and show selection!

I think that's hilarious.
I'm from a suburb of Buffalo, NY. Nice area, good schools, soccer mom heaven, you're the odd man out on the block if you drive a Ford instead of a Lexus or an Infinity.
And yet, in my high school, there were kids who wore "the bling" and the baggy jeans and that thing where you just put the shirt on over your head, but don't put your arms through the armholes? WHat is that? Anyway, I laughed at them because I'm thinking, "buddy, you wouldn't survive a DAY as a real gangsta!"
Also, did you know where that "fashion" of wearing droopy jeans came from? You know, wearing them so low that they show your underwear and your ass?
Let me tell you, so you can tell your friends, and they can tell the assholes who wear their pants like that.
It came from prison. Not "oooh cool I'm a hardass because I wear a style that came from prison", but rather, in prison, if you wore your pants like that, it symbolized that you were willing to be the recipient of anal sex. As in, you were someone's bitch.
OOH WHAT A HARD ASS YOU ARE, WOW YOU TAKE IT UP THE POOP CHUTE.

The only thing that really bugs me about todays 'fashion' is baseball hat wearing custom. They buy the new era hats, which are nice hats btw, but then they leave the big sticker on the brim on it. Supposedly they are making a statement that the hat "isn't fake". That it is a real new era hat. Who cares. Isn't the whole point of wearing the hat to support your team? Why does it matter which manufacturer you buy it from.

I'm serious.
The bigshots in the media don't know the power they wield and the damage they are doing. This is morally unacceptable.

Let's analyze.
The message is what concerns me. Go ahead, turn on the TV to the kiddie channels or MTV. It's all the same crap. They're more intent on selling crap to you than entertainment, and if they can do both, so much the better for them. They aren't just trying to sell music, either. They are trying to sell a lifestyle.
My little brothers watch Nickelodeon. I was not surpised when I noticed that between every cartoon, they are now playing music videos. I can understand MTV, but a kids show? Already they encourage buying their music? Start them early!
Additonally, you have to pay attention to exactly who goes on as guest speakers on their shows...I don't watch MTV at all, but I know for a fact the following people have been on Nickelodeon hosting shows of some sort:
-Rosie O'Donnell (lesbian, hosts Kid's Choice Awards, a kiddie verson of the VMAs)
-Elton John (gay) (appeared in a special interview)
-Linda Ellerby (Fired from a news organization for outright lying, now hosts "Nick News")
I'm not making any social commentary, nor saying that either one of them is despicable because of their sexual preference, but they aren't exactly being objective here: they are literally force-feeding these people so that kids don't make a choice, they see them on the TV and think that they're okay people. (Whether they are or aren't is up to you, not the TV, to decide.) It's brainwashing, by any other name.
Additonally, I've noticed that between shows, they also do some games. Nick Live or something or other. They played the usual games, like answer the questions right or you get slimed, put all the X in the Y, with lots of slime going everywhere, etc.
And they were using ebonics.
Don't any of you see it? What we are seeing is a brainwashing to accept pop culture, whether you like it or not. They're forcing mindless drones to become mindless consumers.
It's greed and it's despicable.
Some of you are just thinking that Aztec's off on a morality crusade again. Well, I'm not. Open your eyes. Realize what they are doing.
There is more, concerning the messages inside the cartoons, but it begins to get really non-politically correct. And Viacom/Nick isn't alone. There is some really wierd crap going on in other cartoonmakers.
Now, Nick/MTV is catering to the themes of sexuality/violence in the pop music, and is partly responsible for the moral rotting of this country. I've seen little girls, no older than ten, wearing those new shorts that are worn below the waistline. No older than ten. Viacom is pushing it all, along with the lot of them in the entertainment industry.
AztecWarrior
2004-08-31, 10:44 PM
((Double posting so that if someone replies to the first post, then I edit it, they won't get it all.))
We are morally rotting.
There was a time when if an actor was caught smoking pot, his career was finished.
Now we have Paris Hilton, a slut, for no better word, who is rich via inheritance and does nothing to help out that family company, being caught in a sex tape. Popularity spikes and she gets her own TV shows (The Simple Life/s).
You may find the sex tape erotic. Fine. I'm not debating that. Look beyond her body. She is nothing. She is a remarkably stupid woman who is rich and goes on a TV show to nail exactly how distant she is from reality. And she's famous.
Every year, skirtlines get lower and lower. I'm actually going to take a page from the feminist book and wonder why there is so much objectification of women. Well, that's obvious: they're doing it to themselves. I'm not gay or anything, I find it attractive. But purely from a visual standpoint. I could never enter any sort of relationship with a drone like that.
In the mass media, the male is being portrayed as stupider and stupider while the female is always the one who reasons. This actually is a cartoon, albeit held by Cartoon Network.
It's something like "The Grim Reaper" because the main character's companion is the Grim Reaper, with a Jamaican accent. The kid is a complete idiot. Her sister is a genius, always bailing him out of trouble.
This isn't limited to cartoons. Commercials everywhere are having men protrayed as beasts who sit down on couches, guzzle beer, and watch football.
There was a cable commercial advertising a new channel blocking system. This dopey-looking guy sits down on the couch and tries to watch a channel, but it's blocked. He has a look of confusion throughout the commerical. He calls for his daughter. Daughter explains blocking system. "You have to ask mom." Calls the mother. Mother says "NO!".
Again, I'm not saying that the role of the woman is to cook and clean. I'm not saying "IRON MY SHIRT, BITCH!" I'm not portraying the male as the greater gender. I'm saying that men are being made less than human.
You can thank your favorite media companies for that.

I'm proud to be a microbe in that social decay. Morals are just a loose series of prejudices founded by some people around the inquisitions. No wonder people are finally realizing that they really aren't all they're chalked up to be.

Sorry ob, but I'm gonna have to go with the Cuban on this one. I like the TnA as much as the next guy, but at the same time, it's a little sad when 4/5 women in this nation think they're too fat and want to lose weight. I was thinking about this during Phys Dimensions (PE and Health) and they were talking about body image and self esteem. Looking around, virtually every girl around looked just fucking fine. How they can think they're too fat is a great mystery to me.
And they're twisting the world into this mindset of "what I want is always right, or I wouldn't want it. What I want is good for everyone, I deserve it." They make people think the world owes them something, not that they owe something to society. They've destroyed the concept of being greedy, unless you're a Republican who deals in oil, which is a vital resource to every nation on Earth.
The media is sick and twisted. It makes people care too much about how they look, how society views them. Did you know that children as young as 5 or 6 start acquiring the image society expects of them? Some people, like most of us here probably, don't give a rat's ass what the people in the hallways at highschool think. We don't buy into a group mentality of constantly judging eachother. And that's something to be proud of. That you don't have to prove yourself to be better than everybody else.
Aztec, men have ruled the world for thousands of years and you are bitching about females being portrayed as superior in a few shows?
That is pathetic.
Get over yourself.

Duck, what I'm saying is that people SHOULD be who they are, when they want to. Anorexia is just another prejudice, only this one is against yourself. I'm simply suggesting that people base their lives off of what they stand for as opposed to what they are against.
And the media is simply another outlet for whats right and whats wrong according to another set of social prejudice. Listening to the media is no better than having somebody walking with you all the time whispering into your ear what you should believe.

Yes excatly! I hate people who fix there hair the current style, wear the current clothes ALL the time, people bling blinging. You dont need to act cool to have cool friends. Be who you are, its worked for me and I dont think you could place me in any group. I have jock friends, ghetto friends, geek friends, drama club friends, football friends all because I act myself. well first off about 40% of those women are right. I really have little self respect for those that complain about being over weight and do nothing about it though, there is no excuse for being fat.
People definently seem to be over estimated there worth as well. Espically younger kids, it seems like a childs happiness must be the parents obsession. Most people that feel they are being judged or either self centered or just self concious. If you're self concious about something that you can change, then change it otherwise don't worry about it.
Now don't get me wrong here but appearance is important because thats how you're judged until somone can judge you upon your actions. It shouldn't be your obsession but you should simply take pride in your appearance.
