Florida = FUCKED.

That little orange ball isn't the size of the storm, this is:

http://www.goes.noaa.gov/GIFS/HUIR.JPG

ASS RAPE.

A storm the size of Florida is barrelling towards Florida, chances are that it will be a Cat 4 or 5 when it hits, most probably 5:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0604T+GIF/302053T.gif

For the record: the following common members of PSU are Floridians:

Me (Miami- Southeast Florida near the tip)
Triggar/martyr (Daytona Beach- that wierd bulge on the East coast of FL)
Xmodum (Panhandle)

Apologies to those I missed.

So...are we screwed or what? Commencing emergency preparations...

Why do they give them nice names like Charlie and Frances, Andrew and Floyd? How about "HROTHGAR" or "I SUCK" or "ASSFACE"?

Negative on the evac. We're intent on surviving this one. We'll be in a room at a hospital my dad works at. The house is screwed though: we don't have enough hurricane shutters. Flood damage is the #1 problem though, we live in a VERY flood-prone area. If it rains hard, we could expect serious damage. We're going to pile everything we can on top of the beds, etc.

But we have insurance. Because it's better to have the fucking windows break and the house flood, but get paid for it all, than to not have it break in the first place. Mom logic.

The East Coast being big has nothing to do with every hurricane being "the one".

Of course, you realize I am kidding, right? I can see this is a big deal to you, even though you're basically running fifty-fifty for commiting suicide by saying negative and riding it out.

My apartment patio flooded three inches when we had a big rain storm. Oh man, was I pissed. I can just imagine how those rednecks in Staarkey or Starrkey, Florida (whatever the name of that shitty village was where I got pulled over) are going to feel when their trailers all get blown away.

The really scary part is, everywhere that Charley hit is still waiting for repairs from that hurricane. Our roof is still weakened, so is the structure of a lottt of other people's homes. Getting slammed by a smaller hurricane and sustaining damage is only setting us all up for total destruction.

Renters Insurance + Evacuating = Best Solution for right now.

Triggar

That is the most ludicrous statement I've seen on PSU for a long, long time.

Meterologists aren't psychics. The best they can do is have an extensive knowledge of the history of weather, weather phenomena and how the factors of weather (i.e. convection) work. For example, I know that a rising parcel of saturated air is a good indicator that there will be a thunderstorm. But I can't see into the future, so I don't know that the parcel of air will become convective activity.

It's like saying a car mechanic is an idiot because he didn't tell you last week when you had your oil changed, that you were going to be rearended a week from now.

ok spider you lost, thought more now than humans doing the forcasting there are super computers that get infor about Tem's wind humidity ect form all over the place and put it together to make a forecast, if they make a general forcast it's nearly alway's right, but any thing specific it gets to be iffy. So many things effect the weather it is a very interestion phenominon, so many googleplex millions of atoms all somehow forming into an Organized chaos, it fucking insane how complicated it is.

GOOD NEWS (for Central-South Floridians):

The hurricane is "expected" to landfall more to the north, along the GA/FL state line. No reason is really given for that, and it could be wrong, as witnessed with Charley.

I have seen some nasty weather in my 17 years of exisitence, including watching tronado touching down in person and the after math of a recent tornado in jeresy on the way to the shore, but I look at Frances and think a tronado is a light breeze. To those in Florida, if you aren't evacing, please reconsider. There is no need to risk one's life. Frances could possibly become a hurricane Andrew (quick reference link: http://www.noaa.gov/hurricaneandrew.html) if it continues to strengthen, I hope to God it doesn't though. Hope it weakens and turns away but better safe then sorry and possibly injuried or worse.

That's a pretty lame comment, you intellectual noob. Now they're saying over 25 people died in our last hurricane... So far they're estimating death toll in the Bahamas are over 100... And you're sitting here acting all high and mighty about that "Oh they ALL think this is the end."
