View Full Version : Triggar and Martyr Out

Triggar

Hey guys, just letting you know that Martyr and I will be starting our evacuation journey in a few hours. We still have to hurricane-proof our apartment (taking everything off the walls, moving all the furniture to a non-windowed corner and covering it with tarp, et cetera) and pack up some food (including that bag of Science Diet that the one member of our home can't live without. I keep telling Martyr 'try this spaghetti, it's good!' but noooo.) and whatever we can fit into my car. Then, hopefully by 1900 tonight, we should be on the road to North Carolina.

Everyone pray for the people in Florida. I keep hearing that this storm is going to be the most powerful one to hit Florida in the past 100 years. Martyr and I are lucky - we have good insurance, and a place to go. A lot of people, especially in Daytona, don't.

So, this is Triggar, signing off pro tempore. We'll get online and keep you guys updated as soon as we can. We expect to be in Charlotte at around 4am tomorrow (Thursday).

Good luck Floridians, and Godspeed!

Do basements work for hurricanes? Here in Kansas, we have tornados, and basements seem to work well for that. Not sure if a hurricane works the same way.

No basements in Florida, were too close to the sea level.

Move to California, just like Florida, but:

- Fewer trailer parks
- The ORIGINAL Disneyland
- More movie studios
- An ocean without sharks
- No tornadoes, hurricanes, or floods (just your occasional earthquake)
- We're right next to Hawaii
- Go skiing, motorcycle riding in the desert, and surfing all in the same day

;)

Good luck Floridians!

Storm surge = flooding = massive rush of water h4xoring your bunker.

1. A basement cannot be constructed at all, three feet and you hit the Florida Aquifer (TM). Everything gets wet.

2. Assuming you could build one, it would flood and you would die. Natural Selection > You if you did that.

Good luck and drive safely. Not to be a smart ass but Andrew was the strongest hurricane in the last century with 177-200mph sustained winds in parts of it, Frances and Charley are the once a century event of two powerful hurricanes hitting florida in the smae season. I know too damn much about the weather.

UPDATE

Martyr and I packed up all our valuables, and everything we could fit into my car, including a very disgruntled Isis. We moved everything we left behind, away from the windows and covered everything in plastic tarp. We took everything off our walls and emptied our fridge and shut off our circuit breakers. Then we left our apartment at 10pm. I was crying my eyes out, it was like saying goodbye to a friend who's dying.

We arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina at 5 this morning. John's mom and sister were awake, getting ready for their day, so we got Isis out of the car and she made herself comfortable in John's house. At 6am, John and I passed completely out (in separate beds :( ).

12pm, we're awake, and our friend Peter has just arrived from Florida. I'm still in my jammies.

The storm still looks like a massive force to be reckoned with. I worry for all who weren't as lucky as John and myself...

But, we're here, and we're okay. We have internet and everything, so we're going to get some planning done for Bravo!

Thanks again for the incredible support, and those in Florida, get the hell out!!

Meh.... thats whats bad about florida... you have to drive like 8 hours to get out of the state before you can go ANYWHERE in the US.
