GOD NO OH PLEASE GOD NOOOOO
I remember Everquest, and how freakin ANNOYING it got having to buy a new expansion pack right after release of a new one! FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD just make major patches or something, make it optional patches... expansion packs are just scams to make money (if you patch games a lot, unline Blizzard for example)

sj.. MAKE US dROOL WHY DONT YOU???

We'll be putting out a ton of retention features after release. (By "retention" we mean features sent to you in regular updates via the automatic patching functions.)
However, there will sometimes be features that are so big, and so art intensive, that they simply must be put onto CDs. Things like new worlds, underwater combat, night missions, etc. (to name some ideas we've considered, but have not committed to), would require so many art assets that the patch size would be in the gigabyte range. And that's ridiculous to assume that all of our players will download.

So we make content like that available as an expansion pack. Otherwise...yeah...retention features all the way.

I don't mind an expansion but i agree EQ was ridiculious, there's like what 50 expansions ?

If you need to add more than 2 expansions to your game than just make a sequel. :p

This is what you do...

Lets say you just bought the new expansion for planet side that lets you dress up like a clown and raise wild lamas. You put the CD into your computer, access your account, and update your vershion, (the expansion costs $30 in stors) once you activated the expansion you get 3 month Free from the monthly fee.

Get it? I dono if SOE would be that smart and open minded, but I am sure if they ease off on the greed (like in EQ they squeezed every penny), this could be a great new way to look at expansions!

Open minded.. you might say that, but not smart. If the game is good enough people is gonna buy the exp. anyway, so why sell it cheaper? Anyway I don't it would be fair (but it would be sweet;)) to not pay anything for an exp. But maybe one free month and then sell it to normal exp. price to make as many people posible buy the exp.

Actually SOE is being very smart. If PS goes like they want they can get people to pay for expansions like EQ. It's a business and SOE seems to be on top of their games.

Kunark gave us Iskar and some good high end encounters, Vel gave content, and luclin better graphics and a good solo class, the newrace looked cool but kinda sucked, also good new spells and horses, I quite before PoP. But all the expansions were nessissary, they gave us tons of new zones free, even If i think legends server should have never been.

Ok no need to complaine about expansions costing 30$. Take how many hours a day you would play, the 80$ for normal game and expansion and the 15-20$ a month you pay for the game if you play 1 hour a day its only like 1.50 an hour...its pretty cheap entertainment

One reason I never bought EQ was because I never knew which one to get! I had no idea what to do! i was lost! cofused! suffounded by expansions! So I said ah screw it I'll wait until Planetside.

P.S.: All those things sj said...
