In this thread we discuss smoking! My mom does, it, and i fucking hate it. In the car, she says it's "out the window" but it blows into my face and having asthma, it's really hard to breathe :(
What's your opinion on smoking? Personally, it's one of my biggest pet peeves. Except ciggars, smoking a cigar is different because:
1. You dont inhale
2. It tastes really good, it's similar to going to a hooka bar :D
Also, answer the poll.

I smoked my first semester of college. Then I went home for Christmas, didn't want to smoke in front of my mother, so I didn't. I never smoked regularly after that.
I occasionally have a cigarette if I'm at the end of my rope and have raging PMS, but I think it's gross and haven't done it since.

Cigars and Cloves on the other hand is a different story.....big fatty cuban with some rum sounds good right now actually.
Tip: If your over 21 and in Las Vegas at a gaming table and a bunch of ciggarette smokers join in (or you join), light up the cigar. It clears them like the plague.....FAST! I don't know what it is, but the majority of cigarrette smokers HATE cigars, go figure.

I smoke cigarettes and cigars I use to smoke alot pack and a half a day. I'm cutting back though. I'm making my way towards quitting. Even though I tried and failed a couple times. It's hard to quit Not bitching about it though. It's kinda weird really, I use to think it was the "cool" thing to do. Not anymore though. Now I only smoke when I drink which only happens on the weekends when hanging out with my co-workers.

1. I don't, and most probably won't.
2. Secondhand smoke is fucking disgusting.
3. While Big Brother Phillip Morris has told us that there is no safe cigarette (not saying that they are wrong, I'm saying that it's almost propaganda), the quality of the tobacco used in a cigarette is far inferior to that used in a cigar or pipe. If I ever did smoke, a pipe would look ghetto, along with a pocket-watch and top hat.
4. I think people who die of lung cancer and have their families sue the tobacco industries are idiots. It's natural selection at work. Hell, if you really need to sue someone, sue the estate of Charles Darwin.

Not here in England, or so it would seem. I'd say 1/7 - 1/9 people smoke (or at least near me). Which to me, is definitely not a small minority. I may be wrong, but that's how it seems to me.

Your first two staments are wrong, it may not kill dirrectly but it does increas occurances of cancer. It also may not kill directly but canacer sure does kill you and so does and asthmatic reaction, there was a while were i got realy bad reactions to my mom's smoking(pack a day mabe more now) and thats teh closest i've ever been to dieing(she being a crazy bitch didn't even think to quit, another story for later) it probably also the reason i have asthma in the first place, as nobody in my family has ever had it.
CAncer is determined by your genes i give you that, but the reason the genes are wrong and cause cancer is that they get changed by an outside force IE: Wave collisions(radio, UV, ect.) viri, and chemicals(cigatets comtain two of the above, radioactive matterials, and the chem)
One a day probably won't change the way you would normaly die, but it increases the risk.

generally speaking, I guess you could say that. but getting cancer from 1 cigarette a day is next to impossible, just think about how little tobacco that is compared to most smokers who have a pack or more a day.
The reason why Smoking hasnt been banned from all resturants and bars nationwide is because there just isnt any strong evidence saying exactly Secondhand smoke can kill. This is why the senate hasnt decided to keep smokers outside for good.

Second-hand smoke might not have a direct link to lung cancer, but:
-emphysema
-asthma
-bad smell
-burning eyes
have all been closely linked to second-hand smoke. My mother smoked my whole life, and my brother has asthma now. She can't imagine why. Read this thread - "my mom smokes around me, I have asthma". It's irresponsible, imo.

I've smoked only once. The nicotine rush made me feel sick and fall over a few times. I had to sit down until it subsided. After that I had a really bad taste in my mouth, and my throat. I'll never smoke again.
My mum and dad smoke. They really annoy me when they do it, too. They stink the house up with tobacco, make the lovely cream walls turn brown, and basically kill themselves. Not to mention my mum can't flick ash out of the car for her life. For some odd reason it always ends up in the eye of the person sitting behind her, which is normally me.

h8 Smoking, my mom smokes but she hides it from us as she supposedly quit :p
My grandfather was a chain smoke'n alchy. He would go sit out buy the coal stove smoking and drinking Grain Alcohol, which is some tough shit, and banned in PA now. I forget how much he smoked but let's just say it was very odd to see him with out a cig in his mouth or hand. He'd even sleep with a cig in his right hand a child's sippy cup full of grain. He used the sippy cup so he wouldn't spill it. After he died of multiple lung and kidney problems. We were finding Alcohol and packs of cigs stashed all over the house and even outside in some places.
So lets just say when people started to say I was just like him, that's why I don't smoke and drink. Hell I'm even named after him, but I don't use that name I use my middle name.
I think it's disgusting and stupid because they are killing themselves and the people around them.

[NSFS] (Not Safe for Sputty)
London - Dogs living with smokers have a higher incidence of serious conditions such as asthma, nasal and sinus cancer and lung cancer than those who have non-smoking owners, a pet insurer in Britain says.
Research carried out in the United States also shows that cats living in smoking households are twice as likely to develop certain forms of cancer, including lymphoma, Asda Pet Insurance said.
"Many people don't realise that passive smoking can have a very harmful impact on pets in the home, with knock-on implications for vet bills," Gev Lynott, director of financial services at Asda, said.
The effects of passive smoking are greater on young animals because their lungs are smaller, their immune systems are less well-developed and they breathe faster, the insurer quoted veterinarians as saying.

Pot for teh win!! Cigaretts are bad but unless you are taking every concerted effort to keep yourself healthy stfu. I had some guy tell me to put my ciggarett out (when I smoked) while he gobbled down 2 big macs and fries. If your not exercising and eating semi-correctly then why should I care about your health. Athsma is different though, medical condition trumps my right to smoke.
On the note of cigaretts causing cancer never been "proven" just strongly suggested. Smokers on average have a unhealthier life, they tend to eat less or eat worse. Also they work out less.
Anyone have a link to a case of a person suing the tobacco companies because of addiction? What about after '64? Last I checked there have only been a handful that won in the 90's on the grounds that they didnt know they would get addicted. I know that nowadays you can sue for that, and hope to win.

i smoke but i have a good reason as i am in the army and serving out in iraq for another tour of duty (cpl.o.summers british army-royal hussars tanks) and belive me when i say the reason quite a few army/navy/airforce guys smoke is the fact tht when your under fire stressed out and down in the dumps a *** can help you out and calm you down i only smoked half-way through my first tour when my tank came under fire and a round impacted off my hatch and grazed my ear ( i was turned out at the time) when we were goin down a road.THAT AND ONLY that made me start smoking i was shaking for about 3 hours and chain smoking now i am not hooked as such and sometimes go with half a *** every 3 days ,and im still very fit.
thats just my reason and not every smoker is a bad evil nazi person.
