Who wants a free iPod?
Navarone over at {BOHICA} has found a "free iPod deal" that, based on what many people have said, is legit.
http://www.**************/default.aspx?referer=9060564
You fill out your info, you have to do 1 deal on some Internet thing, and then refer 5 people to do the same thing. Once your fifth person completes it, you get your iPod in the mail.
Article (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1771223899144212/)
If you sign up with me as a referrer(link I posted above), I'll throw in a little something extra for ya(Sig, hosting, email addresses on my server or a gmail invite).
If you plan on completing the deal, here are a few tips.
1. Any email addy you use WILL get spammed.
2. Make sure you read the fine print on the deals. I'm going with the BMG music deal.
[edit] OneeyedWilly over at {BGC} just confirmed that that offer is indeed legit, and he recieved an iPod via this deal 2 weeks ago.

Seems legit, a bunch of people have gotten theirs, and there's a few sites that have documented it (including CNN).
The catch is that most people can't get 5 of their friends to commit.

It's not a pyramid scheme because you have to buy a product, therefor you are receiving something for your money. True pyramid schemes are illegal in the US.

Now, because apparently it's been blessed by the presence of Hamma, it's allowed to stay and thrive? Again, I call BS.
For what it's worth, my iPod is shipped and should be arriving at my house on Thursday. The 'community' at PSU got me a big fat 0 of my 5 referrals.

I did, and it doesn't register that I did it.
Also, the 5 people I put in as referrals - it said one of them had been used already. So I replaced the one name that it said had already been used. I clicked "submit", and it told me the four that were remaining from the last time had already been used.
And it's still telling me my offer hasn't been completed yet. I did it last night :(

I'm not sure what you mean by the first part of this, but as for the second part a lot of the offers take days to show as complete on their site. The Blockbuster one in particular takes a long time. My recommendations on which ones to use are Infone, which gives you credit instantly and you don't even have to cancel (you'll only be charged if you actually used the service more than 5 times) and Ancestry.com which is actually fairly cool, gives you a 2 week trial to check it out and isn't too hard to cancel (but be sure you do cancel before the 2 weeks is up, $200 on your credit card would be a rude surprise).
Word of warning on the site, however. Once you've completed everything you've got over a month to wait for the product to ship. It's free, so you can't really bitch, but they tell you it's a week or two and not 5. I placed my order on 8/5 and it just shipped out on Friday.

I wouldn't say this community is overrated one bit.
When Starbum's girlfriend was getting trouble from this guy, we all called the guy and pranked him. Starbum reports that the girl has not heard a word from him since.
When I asked what I should get Martyr for his birthday, Glaynor mailed me discount coupons from Kenneth Cole so I could get him clothes.
When Frag's family was getting him down, we were all here to make him feel better and make him realise how kick-ass he really is.
When Hamma and Jen announced they were getting married, they got a reception of a lifetime from this group.
When Dharkie needed a new mouse, someone stepped in and got it for him.
When the Mobilization was running low on funds, an "anonymous" member donated a huge chunk of change.
And when the Mobilization looked like it'd be held without Hamma, Jen or Mars, another anonymous donor supplied them with plane tickets.
Looks like you just lucked out. I love this community so much that I've donated so much time to getting us together each year so we can enjoy the cameraderie in person.
I  it here.

Ah, my bad. The community here picks and chooses it's love then. Closer? Hey, I'm still here but it is overrated. I point out blatant hypocrisy and what was the response? Seriously, how many of the responses to me would you want to stand behind? You're more willing to help out a friend than you are for any random person.
So, sorry you haven't made friends with us. This thread happened to come along at a time that I really wanted an iPod. Difference of opinion. In what I would call a community, that wouldn't really fly. Internet communities are used to moderators who abuse their powers, especially when they first get them. The first law of message boards is that if you give a nimrod mod powers, said nimrod will feel the need to use his mod powers even if it's not in the best interest of the board.
But when a moderator does bone up, in a community I would expect people to sack up and actually say something. I don't personally consider  or 'sucks to be you' to be community minded responses. Call me strange.
And Triggar, I was being quite friendly at the time. Oddly enough, examples of the community being not quite what it's cracked up to be reminded me that I'm much better off considering people I see regularly my friends. Internet and community rarely go hand in hand.

An expected response. It's a message board, not a community. I spend much less time in the lounge, and a lot more on the gaming side. I get the expected message board info/flames/kicks out of it. But that does not a community make.
Like I said, difference of opinion. How ignoring stupid moderators and flames when they don't impact you directly makes a community is beyond me.
In Germany they came first for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the **** and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a ***. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me--and by that time no one was left to speak up.

I, personally, think it's fucking hilarious that Madcow feels the need to compare his thread (about something that looks a whole damned lot like a pyramid scheme) getting locked by OMA to the rise of Hitler and the resulting deaths of some 20-million odd people.
Edit: Personally, I love it here, been here since the start, don't really post that much anymore since I'm a lurker at heart, but this is without a doubt one of the best communities on the net imho.

See, the odd thing about quotes is that they can be used to apply to multiple situations without actually comparing the situations. Whereas I was using this quote to show that the silence of the majority here when threads are locked/edited is bothersome to me and keeps me from feeling like this is a true community, and wasn't actually comparing a single locked thread to the holocaust. Even when I typed it, I was aware somebody would make that stupid statement however.
Again, difference of opinion. Nothing more. You people can stop circling the wagons already.
Back on topic, the Infone and Ancestry offers appear to come and go but are most often on the site in the mornings. I believe both give instant credit, so if you are pushing friends/co-workers for assistance you might want to go over these with them. Infone in particular is appealing since people don't even have to cancel it. Also, if you are getting referrals from friends and co-workers, do your best to make sure that the referrals aren't all coming from the same IP address (work or school). Try and get people to complete the referrals from home, as multiple referrals from the same IP address may flag your referrals for review and may end up getting your account put on hold.

Even when I typed it, I was aware somebody would make that stupid statement however. So why'd you make it? It's a shitty analogy (comparing a slightly overzealus mod to the rise of Hitler and the systematic domination of Germany) and you KNEW it could and would be interpreted that way, so what was the point of even making it besides to showcase your own paranoia. How we're all out to get you simply because some folks are suspicious about scams?
Not to mention totally misrepresenting the tone of the previous thread (out of four posts by other people, one was overtly negative/insulting) and simple ignorance of the fact that more information about the site has come out in the time inbetween (I believe someone mentioned it being reviewed by CNN at one point.)

Again, you're the one that connected those dots. I never compared anything to the rise of Hitler. Don't pull a muscle jumping to conclusions. I was making a statement on community, what community means to me, and you decided I was pretending that a message board had any correlation with the holocaust. Why'd I still make it? Because I like the predictability of people rushing to defense with the same statements. It makes me realize that all is right with the world, and the internet is filled with people making the same arguments over and over thinking they're original and/or witty.
Also, regardless of the fact that you keep ignoring it, it's not all about my one thread. At the end of the day, "I got mine". That doesn't change the number of times I've seen moderator power used stupidly here, with nobody saying boo. It's interesting how one person who hasn't even bothered to get vicious, but has bothered to challenge the 'image' that is trying to be projected here gets responded to. A self-fulfilling prophecy almost.

Who says I'm witting and/or original? I'm an opportunist, you said something stupid, I called you on it. You have no real defense for not spending five minutes thinking up something more appropriate except that you knew someone would take the bait.
Again, you're the one that connected those dots.
If you put a bunch of numbered dots in front of a person and give them a pen, it's a fairly safe assumption that they're going to connect them.
That doesn't change the number of times I've seen moderator power used stupidly here, with nobody saying boo. It's interesting how one person who hasn't even bothered to get vicious, but has bothered to challenge the 'image' that is trying to be projected here gets responded to.
Paranoia =\ Reality, go whore tribalwar if you don't like the way mods run things here. Also, you insulted the mods, quite a few of us are good friends with many of them, why are you acting so fucking suprised people take offense to you insulting there friends?

This online community (PSU), while being no stranger to favoritism (especially as of late), has also been instrumental in supporting the PlanetSide gaming community as a whole with dev chats, community nights, and such. I've been lurking here since PS beta and participate and contribute.
To madcow, I ask that you take a step back and look around a bit here at other PS fansites. The others are not near as organised or benefit the PS gaming community in so many different ways. You might also want to look up the definition of a community in the dictionary. :)
To PSU, I ask that you too take a step back and remember that you are here for the PS gaming community as a whole, and try not to focus on one group of individuals and/or outfits. Go back to your roots. While you obviously have a friendship clique going on, remember too that the PS gaming community is a much bigger thing with a much wider range of people from all walks of life. We all have some great and not so great ideas to share, but like it or not, we're all in this community together. Don't assume that your close friends out here are all that is left of the "good people" of this community.
Oh yeah, BTW, the iPod thing looks like every other Internet scam out there. If they want to look legit, they had better quit their questionable "business practices".

I can cut and paste! Yay! Look at my rapier wit!
Shiny things distract me. Nav cut and pasted! Hahahahahahaha!
Hey, let's prove Madcow's point!
Nope, nothing at all predictable or herd-like. Very unique. Keep in mind, I was the one that stopped and stated I would stop. It was only then that Nav decided to prove that humor on the internet is as barren as porn is plentiful.

Please Madcow, this is not the thread to complain about the favoritism that you *see* in the PSU community. This thread is about the oh so famed "legitamant" free ipod site. If you want to discuss wether PSU plays favorites, make a new thread

Go rot. I've attempted to put this thread back on track a few times, and rather than allowing that to happen people have instead endeavored to prove my point to the nth degree. You are doing as much right now by addressing me and not Nav or MrPaul who posted after I had agreed with Triggar that the drama needed to stop and I decided not to respond to Incompetent. Do some self-evaluation, but save me the drama about what I should and shouldn't do. In the end it's not going to amount to much in my opinion.
