View Full Version : Fable: a disapointment (warning spoilers)

I had been wait for this game for a while, and initially when i started playing I did think it was great. But now that i finished the game, I look back on it and relieze that it wasn't as great as i expected. Several things contributed to my disapointment.

1) Can't go off the damned path: Sure you can go wandering if you want, but you'll just be walking around the extremly tiny and limiting zones. There is no way you can go looking for adventure in the wilderness and get lost.

2) Boring pretictable story No real plot twists, or real sense of control. It was linear, sure you could do slightly different things, (ie: killing the bandit king, or wisper in the arena) but they didn't really have effect on where the story was going. KOTOR had a much better plot

3) Too damn easy I didn't feel challenged at all, never died once, never even used the 20 some reserection vials. Melee combat was just button mashing. (X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X, win). Ninja Gaiden was much harder

Maybe I was just expecting too much. After hearing about this game 4 years ago and how I could shape the future of the world, and now after playing through this piece of crap im left with a sense of disapointment :(

1- I don't know where you're looking, but I can find adventure (trouble) wherever I go. True, the areas are a bit small, but I can usually find something interesting to do. Plus, there's quite a few secondary things you can do... arena competition, secondary quests, get married, buy property, search for the legendary weapons, ect.

2- Agree. Predictable plot. Could have used some more options or forks in the road.

3- Defenitely agree with this. I wish there were less "horde-battles" where you fight tons of little guys, and more one-on-one battles against enemies of equal power, Whisper style.

Could defenitely use some downloadable content, even if it's just a short followup plot or a few extra optional quests, plus a new spell or two, and a few new weapons.

What class did everyone play? I'm currently classified as a Witchunter, hybrid Archer and Mage. My friend's save on my X-Box is a Barbarian (Pure Melee).

Which is my only other complaint, which is more towards Live then Fable. It irritates me that he'll have to start over. Wish I could send arbitrary files on the live network so I could send him his saves. F' memory cards.

Overall, I really like the game. It's like a more open-ended Zelda with some flair, which is fine by me. There's just something very satisfying about making a character centered around shooting guys with arrows at no futher then five feet, Legolas style.

I agree that there are plently of things to do, but i was complaining more about the world being too small.

imo it's a fantastic game. true KoToR definitely had a better story but here you do have the ability to do some things not possible in KoToR ie murdering a whole village. And you cant really compare the difficulty to Ninja Gaiden. Most xbox games arent as hard as Ninja Gaiden.

i've become spoiled as a gamer in the fact that now, playing an adventure game, i desire the areas to be as open and explorable and interactive and alive as those in games like GTA and Jak 2 and the like. I like my big open worlds. Especially after playing a game like Planetside. Open spaces. Games that stifle my desire to wander around really piss me off. And, if a game promises the ability to shape the world through your actions, well, then, you'd better be able to do all sorts of shit and all of that shit had better have some effect.

i dunno. i'm spoiled. what can i say.

i dunno.. i'd venture to say that they are two different species of animal, but i may be wrong. i've played Morrowind and a little Fable (Travis bought it recently).. Fable's pretty... Morrowind's more flexible. i dunno.. thats a tough one to assess the validity of.

I am througoughly taking my time in Morrowind, and slowly doing the main quest, but more tricking out my gear and working my up in the guilds like the morag tong and theives and whatnot. I just cant see how any game could pack more content than morrowind and its two expansions.

Theres also not enough weapons and armor in this game. Like its either chainmail or Plate armor. Plus boss battles take no skill, its move move move shoot move move move shoot repeat 20+ times. Marriage sucks and I cant figure out how to bang the girl so I always end up killing her. No variety in enemys , there either undead, goblin things or freaking bandits. I only died once in the damn area and I had like 20+ res potions so it made no difference. Im VERY disapointed in this game and really had high hopes but it figures. I heard somewhere that game developers think people like small games so they only make short boring games now. I beat this game the first day I bought it. Took like 9 hours to beat it and after wards theres nothing to do. You slaughter a village and endless gaurds attack you and you have to either run or keep killing them. It sucks

Fable didn't have the feel I thought it was going to have, I have to say, it disappointed me.

A) I thought it was going to be like morrowind x98.

B) I was promised a lot of stuff, I was thinking Black and White x67.

C) I was promised planting trees. I was actually planning (cause I'm a bastard for fan fiction) on creating a story of a sucessful orchard farmer, because that'd be the coolest thing possible, it's out of the ordinary.

D) It's easy to play, but soooo freaking hard to get your skills up to full without playing going in and out of enemy infested areas. Getting Physiche 10 is going to be so hard. :(

E) I wish my friend's were digital, and that's what I had hoped from fable.

F) I bragged too much about the game, and now I have to pay the consequences, because I promised a lot of things, but usually what I promise is just speculation on my part. I think I'm going to get my ass kicked. Probably not, but it sure would be a funny situation.

Don't promise shit for a game you aren't making, especially about stuff they never announced, nor confirmed.

Dharkbayne, My hopes and dreams come from what I can imagine. I also read about planting trees, building homes, and walking somewhere clears the forest. I READ it all about 3 years ago when they described the game. I said to myself, "Hey, if they're doing that, it shouldn't be that hard to do this..." and then it keeps going, until I've created the Sheelob lair of Webs. A web of intricate farces, that by mere touch upon the subject burst into flames of woe and despair, I am... Tortured.

This is how I felt about Planetside. I had all these hopes and dreams and plans all crushed.

Fable was a total downer. It's not even remotely interactive as they made it out to be. You pretty much have a set path that you have to follow through out the game. And with it's large amounts of loading screens, this game doesn't even feel anything like an RPG.

Thank god I rented it first.

I got it for free at least. I traded in 6 used games that sucked in the first place and for every 2 games traded in you get $20 off a preorder plus the ammount the games are worth. SO for 6 old shitty games I got Halo 2 preordered and Fable preordered so I made out well.

good thing this game isn't that great, because I was expecting to buy it and now I guess it's just worth a rental.

Yeah, not much replayability, because contrary to Molyneux's statement, everyone *does* play it the same way. The only choices you make are where to put your stats, and in 3 points in the quest (Kill Twinblade, Kill Whisper, Kill your sister)
