View Full Version : Wisdom Teeth go bye-bye

Well, on thursday of this week I get those good ole wisdom teeth removed. To make it worse (or potentially better) I will only be missing one day of school. So much for a holiday. Thankfully, i'm not a freak like my brother, and do not have an extra pair of wisdom teeth. However, my teeth are brittle thanks to a little disease known as Fluorosis and the dentists of the late 80s who said it was a good idea to make your infant ingest copious amounts of flouride so that their teeth become stained, deformed and brittle when they develop. They actually thought it strengthened them back then.

Wish me luck!

make sure to keep everything clean afterwards. dont want the sockets getting infected (like mine did) it HURTS.

Have lots of icecream and soup for the first day.

they going to knock you out? or just using local stuff and letting you help? :p

They are giving me an ultralight. Contrary to the name, it essentially knocks me out for a few hours. However, during the operation I will be in a semi-concsious state. The surgeon explained if he were to ask me a question, I would answer him. But after I woke up, I would not remember it. I really wish he hadnt told me that :ugh:

I had mine taken out not too long ago too. I went the cheap way and had my local dentist just numb me up and rip them out, then send me home with some 400mg Ibuprofen.

I had the two on the right side done one week then two weeks later I had the two on the left done. I did a side at a time cause since I wasn't getting any powerful painkillers, I didn't want to be in a whole lot of pain at once and so I could still use at least one of the sides of my mouth to eat and what not.

Have the doctor save them so you can stick them in your ass, and when you're sleeping the Ass fairy will come and leave quarters up there for you!

Atleast thats how it worked around our house.

Lemme know how it goes, getting mine out on Oct 5th. My bottom ones are getting all impacted and shit, they told me not to get them taken out until they hurt, and they starting to hurt. (I'm 24 for christ's sake, shoulda had them out a while ago)

Anyway's, lemme know what to expect. I'm in the AF so nothing to worrie about the pain killers, they hook us up. :D

i had mine out recently. All 4 but only 1 was impacted, the dentisted said that the bottom one would push all my teath to the removed impacted on so it had to go, then he said the top would be uselles, so they had to go.

Spent a week off college, so will you proboly.
watch out on the first day where you sleep as i blead alot as i sleepted off the anisetic and stained a good pillow.

You will get knocked out and have a tube put down your throut. But you wont get your teath back as they are destroyed as they come out.

The good this is lots of ice cream. The bad thing, you look like a hamster

I got mine out in May and I was a little disappointed, to be honest. The doctor had to cut open two parts of my gums to get the teeth out, then all four just came right out, no problems. I opted for the laughing gas, which was amazing - it was like the end of a long night of drinking. I realised that the doctor was coming at me with giant syringes full of novocaine, but I didn't give a shit. I was daydreaming the whole time. I realised that he was stitching my gums, but I thought it was hilarious.

Don't eat soup the first day. Eating hot stuff will dissolve the blood clots in your sockets and you'll get dry sockets, the excruciating thing Eine was talking about. Apple sauce, jello, pudding, those'll be your best friends.

Also, ice your face a whole lot. I don't know if that's why I never swelled or not, but it made me feel sooo much better.

Good luck :)

Wasn't much pain after I got mine removed. If you have a good oral surgeon you'll be fine.

Don't gargle it, just get a curved syringe designed to squirt water and other liquids (as opposed to injecting them; the syringe I'm referring to has no needle fixture) to squirt salt water directly into the socket. Much more pallatable than gargling.

My oral surgeon gave me one of those syringes - told me not to use it until 24 hours after my surgery. I filled it with mouthwash and let it rip. It was greeeat.

Oh, and dont eat crunchy foods for at least a lot longer than you think. I figured i was ready, and did so. Not so cool when your gums are flapping all around and then bleeding after the stiches come out. Food got stuck in the flaps and that was nasty. Use more mouthwash, tons and tons. And salt water as well.

As for recovery time, i was driven to work that very night to get in a BF1942: DC tourney. I didnt take any of the uber painkillers, just advil stuff. It was fine except for these weird lumps that finally just went away. Think predator mandibles inside your mouth.

I got mine out in August. ALWAYS keep your face iced, if you think you've iced it enough, you haven't. I din't ice mine enough, and my cheeks sweeled like mad.

I can barely feel my 12 year old molars, I wont have a problem with my wisdom teeth for at least 3 more years.
