Well... seeing as I am now a pilot for real... as In I am not flying illegaly... I thought I would create this thread to talk about our adventures. Also I was wondering if someone could help me with a small problem.
I have an aviation head set.... dual jacks... was wondering if it was possible to get an adapter to make them useable on my computer.

You were before? Shame on you - you put other pilot's lives in danger when you fly without proper training.
However, kudos on taking the step into getting licensed - flying has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I'm extraordinarily grateful that I get to persue it as a full-time career.
Anyhow, I hope this headset of yours is from David Clark, because DC's are the best in the business. Watch movies involving airplanes and the pilots will almost always be wearing those trademark sage green headsets.
I do believe it's possible to get an adapter for the ear piece jack, however I don't think you can get an adapter for your microphone. I've been warned that the audio quality when plugged into the computer sucks the fat one, dunno why, but I'm sure Martyr could explain it to you.
Oh yeah, he's a pilot too. A leet one, he's got way more hours than me :p

huzzah, pilotage!
edit: drawback to adapting your dc's (or sig, or whatever - provided they arent bose) to your computer is that they were designed for radio use - they have very poor low- and high-frequency response (they sound crappy.)
however!
yes, it is indeed possible. i've seen an adapter, i don't think it was from sporty's, so it was probably avshop. will investigate.

Thanks Martyr... and Trig just to let you know I had training but because I was below 16 I couldnt get my medical. I am a perfectly safe pilot and Know how to fly... this is just offical.
P.S. Have either of you two seen those SR - 20s!? holy shit what a bueatiful airplane.... no offence to triggar but they are hotter than her. I saw one at my field wensday and fell inlove with it just by looking at it. Lots of digital stuff... side stick controls. Apparently its a bitch to get comfortable to land and everything but its none the less a beautiful aircraft. If I get an airplane its going to be that. Half a million dollars but if I have it it will be worth it.

They evacuated our fleet too, so we're good :)

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.
I hear you have to actually be a pilot to go ahead and be a rich pilot which facilitates buying planes. And by be a pilot, I mean have something like your private or commercial pilots license, not your medical/student pilot certificate.

I'm thinking about becoming a pilot. Is there any kind of medical examinations you have to go through? Apparently I'm slightly colourblind. Would this affect my chances of becoming a pilot?
I'm going to become a commercial pilot if all goes well. Perhaps maybe police at the most. (Helicopter that is)

Yea - personally helocopter piloting has always interested me more.. being a medflight pilot would be kickass. Landing on higways and such :p

@ hamma: 1. Flying is relativly easy to do. I swear to god doop could do it. Maybe.... but as for safty that aircraft I just pictured has a rocket launched parchute recovery system. It can save you and the airplane for a mear 100k. (thats how much to fix it. Its alot to fix but the airplane itself is 500k) Also to become a heli pilot I think you need to become a normal pilot.... its also ALOT harder. Take it from me... Ive flown one.
@ Martyr: Holy fuck thats hot.
@ jet lover dude: Jet engines are over rated... finding landing strips long enough to set down on... places to refuel.... fixing them... overhauls... its just not worth it. Plus a prop means you can go mad slow....
Quick story... friday was my second lesson. It included things as slow flight... well I got bored with just doing slow flight so I asked the instructor if I could do something fun. He knows me so he said ya. Found a nice small area in the Mohawk Vally... nice tall valley ... dove into it, pitched for speed at 39 kts and throttled up for altitude.... full flaps.... Congrats I am now in a 39 kt head wind.... aka... I am hovering.... ATC started to yell at me for showing off after that :( I held steady for about 2 minutes.... just sitting in one spot.... kinda creepy... you could see people looking up at us 1250 feet down saying "Wtf"

I want to get a rotary license someday.
There was once an opportunity I could have been a Blackhawk pilot, but that went along with my vision.

Negatory ghost rider, if the chute is deployed the plane is done for. The stress is way too much, you may land in one piece, but that plane's never getting certed again. To my knowledge it's only been used once (twice?).
And your slow flight story sounds like a good way to get yourself killed, you've got a very bad flight instructor.

Also sounds a little weird to me - why did you take off when the wind was gusting to 35knots anyway? What kind of airplane were you flying, I know a Cessna 172 can only handle 15knots of crosswind.

Yes there are annual physicals (frequency depends on the certificate you have).
Being colorblind will affect your chances to get a job, but does not bar you from flying professionally. You will also have restrictions on under what conditions you can fly, which will not make your career more difficult.
I'm not sure if the FAA adopted (I think they did) the recommendations from the NTSB's report on FedEx flight 1478, but if they did, you'll want to find another career depending on how bad your color blindness actually is. Your local FAA approved physician should be able to tell you.

I was going to call bullshit but I wanted to be nice.
Aww fuckit. Bullshit.
I'm also placing bets he was actually in a Cessna 152. I guess it depends where he lives.

I don't think you'd be allowed to fly colorblind - things like light gun signals, other aircraft's position lighting, airport signage, the color of fuel when you're testing it, etc.

It was a 152.... I was flying directly into a head wind in a vally. Not really that hard. Match speed with winds. And it wasnt gusting... I was getting a venturi style result from the vally. It was a constant 35-40 mph wind. Just give it a little gas to make some progress and climb out of the vally to get out. Its really not that hard and from what my instructor said people do it out west all the time... they will just hover over the field for minutes on end waiting for ATC to give them the go ahead to land... then they just cut power a little and the plane slowly drops.... basicly landing like a heli. The problem is if the wind cuts out during a crazy landing like that you die. Only one person has landed like that he saw.
