Ladies and gentlemen of the PSU community, it is with great pride and excitement that I announce to you that Martyr and I are getting a 2005 Mini Cooper S!
http://www.euroautofestival.com/Mini-Cooper-S.jpg
http://www.mini2.com/gallery/MINI%20Cooper%20S/B_1029-Interior-dash.jpg
(the picture of that interior is not the one we're getting. That's an older model - ours has a leeter steering wheel as well as some other neat switches and shit)
Our phat new whip will have:
- silver metallic exterior paint
- chrome line exterior (chrome on the grill and side mirrors)
- premium package, including a dual-pane panoramic moon roof, cruise control, multi-function leather steering wheel with radio controls, auto A/C with carbon air filter, and an on-board computer with trip odometer, average speed, fuel consumption, the distance you can go on the remaining fuel, and outside air temperature
- grey and black leather interior
- alloy patina dashboard interior
- sport suspension
- 16" v-spoke tires (with rims baby)
- computer navigation system including a LCD screen displaying GPS and DVD-loaded maps, the navigation system also speaks to you while you're driving
- auxillary audio input to hook up a MP3 player
- 6 speaker AM/FM CD player
- 4 wheel disk ABS brakes
We put a deposit down on the bad boy this week, and pick it up at Christmas time!
(They custom-build each car, and it takes that long to complete. The dealership doesn't actually stock any cars except used ones!)
Hooray!!

We were going to get black, but with a black car, you see each tiny bit of dirt, and every tiny scratch. No thanks!

Correct. We drove one yesterday, and we felt like it should've felt like driving a go-kart, that thing hauls ass. Especially the S model, which gets 163 horsepower at 6000 RPM. We test-drove it around the dealership which might as well have been a test track; there were cobblestone roads, hills, sharp turns, highways, suburban streets. The suspension is bad ass. It goes from 0-60 in about seven seconds.
I was hoping that me and Jenny could get one for her when she got settled here but she doesent know how to drive Stick, the S only comes in stick right?
a) Teach Jen Jen to drive stick (get a rental piece of shit) - I had to learn how to drive a manual transmission IN ENGLAND, with two screaming kids in the back seat. Definitely don't want to make a left turn into the right lane in that situation, and you definitely don't want to stall out in the middle of a roundabout. Took me about two weeks to get it down.
b) Negative ghostrider, the S model only comes with a manual transmission :p
MattxMosh
2004-10-03, 05:13 PM
Hamma, Take Jen up Main Street at like 3 in the morning a few times, its how I taught Steph to drive stick. Then hit up nice roads like washington street in traffic, she'll be great after that.
Hamma
2004-10-03, 05:49 PM
Well, she sure isnt going to learn in my Focus. Only I was allowed to do that

martyr
2004-10-03, 06:17 PM
that S model is hawt.
trig test-drove conservatively with low shifts ... i took the dealer's suggestion and ran it a bit higher.
hfs.
that turbo ... man. you hear it kick in at 2500, at 3000 you feel it. you're all like "oh, small car, small engine, this is fine." until 3k. then it's "hfs, i've got a sports car! good thing those seats are comfortable, cuz suddenly i'm stuck in mine."
edit: yeah, you "big car" guys say pfft, it's a mini. allow me to dispel this argument with my vehicle history, then a bit of physics.
1. lincoln continental.
2. beechcraft skipper.
3. cessna 152
4. piper warrior
5. honda accord ex (coupe)
6. mazda mpv
7. cessna 172 (180hp upgrade)
8. corvette (crossfire injection)
9. saturn ls
the mini rocks all of these in overall experience, not including the 3rd dimension (where applicable).
why, you ask?
because it's small.
the little bmw engine inside is pretty respectable for a small efficient car.
add an intercooled turbo to that, and it's damn sweet.
it boils down to (i assume this is the correct terminology for ground vehicles) the thrust to weight ratio. or maybe it's power to weight.

I share an Explorer (it's tricked out, got a great system, too) with my cousin who works in New York so she doesn't need her car until she comes home to FL for vacations and stuff. So, since my Uncle is rich out that ass, he doesn't sell it, he just lets me drive it. I love that car. Black Ford Explorer. I want to get rims for it, muahahahaha. 20's i think. heh heh heh

god i want a car. It makes me sad to read this.
As for car preference, i like SUV's but not boats, 4runner, older montereos, boxy stuff mostly, not these new things 'tamed' SUV's like hilanders, and civics, that are cars'mini-vans with SUV bodies.
i also like rally type cars, Subaru WRX, Lancer EVO's, ect.

Hamma, and anyone else who cares, I got my mother on the case. Now, here's a little background information about my mother - both she and I come from a very, very long line of women who have proverbial balls of steel. These are women who not only thrived during the great depression as widows, but actually built up wealth - legally. These are women who are used to being in, and thriving in difficult situations. These are women who can make something from anything. To sum it up, these are women who don't take "no" for an answer.
Now, I got my mom on the case. My mother's JOB TITLE is "Executive Sales Champion" - the woman has the bloody word "Champion" in her JOB title. And what does she sell? $100,000 mail meters. I'm not even kidding, she works for Pitney Bowes selling these things to corporations. And she kicks her quota's ass each month.
ANyhow, she knows the dealer up in Buffalo personally, because she sold him a meter. She asked us for a specific list of things we want in the car and I suspect that we will get the navigation kit and floor rugs "thrown in" ;)
I'll keep you posted!
