Me and Eine had a conflict of interest.
I personally LOVE steam, its letting us Half Life 2 on our computers before it is actually in stores, and letting us purchase HL2 and be ready to play when it goes retail without the hassle of installing and driving to the store, and also, it is letting us have access to its entire library of games (even HL2 to play at a friend's house) without the need of carrying CDs or CD cases.

Eine, on the other hand, hates steam and can't stand it, he would rather be 5 weeks without HL2, with the option of not using steam ever again. He complains of games crashing and doesnt want to use a separate program to play a Single player game.

So, are you for it? or against it?

Still has bugs and problems, no where near what it had at release, but it's a good idea and will hopefully become stable enough that everyone will at least use it, if not like it :)

while not the only reasons, thoes are 2 major issues.
i'd much reather sierra left HL well enough alone and forgotten about stream.

I avoid STEAM as much as possible, and havent played a HL mod (except one night with fragmatic) in over a year.

Edit: This is on the current state of STEAM. in the future they may improve it, but this poll is on the current state of STEAM.

yea I like it I guess. its a pretty little app with all your HL stuff in one place, which is nice.

As posted on BGC:

I like steam personally, I havent had much trouble with it at all. With the old HL frame, when you pressed escape by accident, you would have to wait for the game to switch to the menu mode which would take a couple of seconds to nearly half a minute. With steam, it's instant, plus you can still see whats going on in the game.

Same with the console, much easier to use since steam. Patching has also become instant and easily implemented. The only thing I dont like about it is the buddy list. It never seems to work right. Overall though, Steam seems to work much better than the old system.

Try switching to D3D mode, I cant play OpenGL half life/mods on steam without crashing :(

Whenever i join a server (any server) it boots me from it withing 5 min without an error or anything.
the server just disconnects without warning and im suddenly looking at the main screen of the game i was playing.

i have yet to crash with steam, but then again, there was a point, 9 months into PS, where i had never once crashed before.

Steam used to be ALOT WORSE.

As it is now, its a great distribution model for all of Valve's needs. I just wish they upgrade their servers when HL2 Comes out because there is going to be hell with everyone logged onto steam.

I like how it updates your games but I don't like the favorites saving (or not saving) and the Friends network (which is down 90% of the time) but that's what I use Xfire (www.xfire.com) for.

It's a very awesome idea. I love how you can just buy/play games anywhere. Very cool.

Retry.

Retry.

Friends list loads.

Other than that, though, Steam is fine by me.
