It looks pretty good, but doesn't rival the Unreal 3 Engine. My primary complaint with it is that, like the Doom 3 Engine, it has too much wierd and splashy lighting effects to look real, whereas the U3E looks rough, like the Half Life 2 Engine, and creates realistic-looking spaces and terrains.

Is that the Source Engine, or the Reality Engine? It looks fairly mediocre, whatever it is.

Only you, Rob, only you.

the one at the top doesnt even look like an engine to me. Looks like someone had some fun with 3DSM or Maya.

It also is too soft. The tones are too bright and there's too much of a soft sheen on everything. Show me something that proves better lighting effects than the U3 engine and I'll believe it. But from the U3 engine demo, it'll be hard to beat that out.

I think whats most impressive is that this engine runs on current hardware.

BAH. Just wait 'till they make a physics/graphics engine that can simulate and render each individual atom and sub-atomic particle of a level in real time.

Computeres everywhere will explode.

It's an asus A8V Deluxe.

Compare it with this -

yeah, except it says "BEEFY COMPUTERS" on the side.

Beefy computers are dumb, they should have made that RAM run duel channel :p

Everything looks too "plasticky" and shiny, like doom 3, but those environments are very bare.

I don't like the lighting effects either, for instance - This screenie (http://www.artificialstudios.com/screenshot.php?pic=m12.jpg), a candle wouldn't produce that much light.

I much prefer the source engine, It's got a nice look to it. My only gripe with it are the textures, they could be so much better. (although the textures in cs source are shitty to cater for a broad range of computers, think of all the cybercafes which will have it).

that light is from a flashlight or something but not the candle because u can see the shadow of the candle
