Nikki Finke in Los Angeles is reporting that actor Christopher Reeve is dead, according to sources close to the actor. He died suddenly Sunday. News of his death has not been reported publicly yet. His family will make an announcement Monday at the earliest. Reeve was just mentioned Friday in the second live presidential debate by John Kerry. Noting he was a friend of the paralysed Reeve, Kerry said he was in favor of further stem cell research because Reeve could walk again one day thanks to such science.... MORE...

Someone will break either that Mr. Reeve lives, or has passed. You can bet they are scrambling to learn the truth, to either break it first nationally, or embarress drudge.

The fact that Christopher Reeve is famous means that it is forced upon us to give a flying fucking shit about him. If he was just another cripple-by-his-own-design, nobody would care. But the fact that he was Superman and decided to make a massive splendor out of his accident meant that he deserves our respect and our attention.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm talking about how somehow celebrity raises oneself in every sense of importance. If you take a trip to Iraq, it's gonna be on the news. If you fucking have lunch with somebody, it's gonna end up somewhere. If you die, you are expected to be respected by the public because you were famous and your death is so tragic.
Well I'm saying fuck that. If I thought Christopher Reeve was a good person (Rodney Dangerfield I cared about because he truely was the man, and would have been the man even if he wasn't famous) at heart, then I would be all "oh that sucks" too. But his celebrity really has nothing to do with it to me. So what if he was Superman? So what if he rose awareness for an affliction only after he fucked himself over with it? If I don't think that he, in any context other than him being a celebrity, would be mourned over genuinely for who he was as opposed to what he played, then I would be all for saying that this sucked.
But I'm just an angry little kid who has no pretense in reality.

you know frog, its cool to be unique, but dont push it. Reeve did some cool things, sure he did them to cure himself (donations to stem cell research), but i have a buddy thatll be dead by the time hes 30 and this kinda research could cure him.

I'm all for stem cell research. That's not what I'm saying at all. I hope that your friend does get cured. But I don't feel it appropriate to have anybody sitting around him thinking "thanks to Christopher Reeve, he's going to live".
