I'm 90 percent sure this is some sort of spyware, but at random times an explorer window will pop up saying that Internet Explorer failed to load the site, at which point I click either OK or X it, and a Cannot display page comes up. I click back, and on some sites I'm fine. Others never want to load. I just want to make sure nothing I can actually fix is wrong before I reformat yet again.

Mmm, yes. And if you're a lazy ass, and don't want to get both those programs, go with Adaware: It seems to catch more.

I'd be happy to write up a few guides on things if you want some help.

Was actually going to write a slipstream/unattended install guide for another site on my day off this week, so maybe I'll cross post it.

well you can look for random processes that are out of place in TaskManager, or move to a better browser and see if that helps,

What sorts of processes would I be looking for? Anything that is taking up a large amount of memory? Also which alternative browser would you reccomend?

well trying to find a process could be tough, generaly wou need to know what's one our system and google anything you may think is out of place.

for an alretnaive browser go with Mozilla Fire Fox 1.0pr (http://www.mozilla.org/) does every thing IE can + tabed browsing and no popups

If you havent already tried this, give Hijack This a run. It sepreste all the things for you to look up.

EDIT: Or search teh Microsoft Knowledge base, it may just be a weird error of sorts.

I've had this problem before. It may be what you're talking about. AdAware, and Spybot won't touch it.

well i followed ur advice sdm and found my messenger service already disabled. I did see something about firewall. Call me an idiot, but I don't know if it's enabled or not. Could someone tell me how to check? Because I sure do get a helluva lot more popups/junk than any of my friends do with the same internet and everything. Also, does enabling the firewall disrupt any online games? IE will it block me from getting into server etc?
