I havent been as involved as I would like to be with the forums due to real life, now that things are toning down a bit I hope to get back to normal. However one thing that has been annoying me quite allot lately is the amount of elitist behaviors, thread derailments and reported posts.
Lets tone it down a bit and remember how PSU started, and what PSU should be. It's supposed to be a friendly community where people are welcome to come and post their ideas, and not get flamed for it. The opposite has been happening here on and off and it makes me sick. This is not aimed at anyone specific but there are a few that are worse than others.
So lets chill the F out here, and get back to normal.

Ya know back in the day of the hot girls thread people were too busy fappin and gawking at the almost shown boobies that no one flamed each other much. Hmmm mabey a porno forum or another hot girls one. PSU:PF or PSU:HGF. And just for Infernus and to not be sexist we can a Hot Guy forums for him too. I could post pictures of myself in a capone hat with feather, leather pants, no shirt and bling bling on.

Imageshack for the win. What we really need is a dedicated moderator that will go through the images in the forums, and anything hotlinked from other places, the mod deletes.

...However one thing that has been annoying me quite allot lately is the amount of elitist behaviors, thread derailments and reported posts.
I too have noticed the elitist behaviors of quite a few here. Especially towards members of the Official forums that post here. Just because someone is from the OF doesnt make them a retarded, inbred, asshat with a dildo surgically graphed to their heads.
Remember because someone may have 5 post does not make then inferior to your 10,000 or just because youre more famous on the forums does not give you the right to talk down to anyone else.
And to those that feel the need to own others on the boards. Like Im sure your mom or grandma told you before, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything.
I know Im guilty myself of derailing threads. And so are many others. We all need to work on that I think. But thus is the nature of a any webbernet forum.

it wouldnt be bad if it keeps people in line. Hamma's not a complete nazi to the point of senseless action, but i see what he means and definitely think bans would be suitable for continued elitist/troll behavior.

Or the ****... cause no loving god would let them wander around in circles in a harsh desert for 40 years.
In regards to the topic: I agree wholeheartedly...
Thread derailments and trolling are getting out of hand... Sputty's posts in Oddfish's "The End" thread are proof enough. As for elitism, I honestly admit that I take part in some such actions, I'll watch myself in the future.

Kind of ironic when hamma feared people feeling a bit over themselves just because they have high post count, wich is reason why he took away posting ranks, and its just making more fuss.

Post counts and ranks encourage spamming and other useless posting. PSU is more deep than your average internet forum, so it sort of makes sense we've run into a deeper, harder-to-solve problem.

2004-10-13, 10:03 PM
Yes I know that, but now since they are gone, everyone thinks they are "elite", there isn't really any newbies around or so we think because we cant identify them by a post count, so they are free to act as equal and/or more. We need a tag for all the new members within a 2 week period. i'm starting to get lost with all the new names.
Most of the whore can see post counts cause they donated. I think Hamma needs to reset that.

thats the thing, there is NO elitism on these forums. we hardly even throw around the term "noob" (nonjokingly, anyway).
I dare you. go to ANY forum, its 100x worse anywhere else. people labelled noob or something is part of our society. you cant avoid it, no matter what. thats just the way we are.

you can always tell a "n00b" by someone who comes to the forums and immediately tries to flame/troll as if they own the place. They piss off the members of the community who have been here a long time and have contributed to its success in some way. Why? Because if you've been part of a community for a long time you don't want some jerk to come in and start throwing his asshattedness around like he's the new king. It's not that he's threatening anyone's status, it's that he's fucking up the smooth relationship most of the regulars have in this community. It has nothing to do with elitism. It has to do with a sense of normality that we maintain at PSU which consists, usually, of friendly arguments, banter, and mock-feuding with homosexual and phallic references all around. Often times it's silly, often times it's ridiculous, and sometimes and can turn into a real situation that needs to be dealt with, but such is the nature of the kind of friendship most of us have managed to develop with each other over the internet. It's strange to say it, but i'm sure many of us feel very close to our friends here at PSU. That being the case, it can be frustrating when some new guy bops in and tries to create conflict and frustration. Many people come here for a type of mental sanctuary that they can't get anywhere else. A place where they can discuss topics with many different minds at once and know that they can safely discuss those topics no matter what they may be. Some of us don't have that opportunity in real life. Some of us just feel a bit more comfortable talking to our PSU friends than to just anybody else. This is a very open-minded community, and it appears to have been that way from the start. Sure, at times some of us can be judgemental, some of us can be mean, some of us can be close-minded, but in truth that is to be expected to a degree. We're only human.
I guess this is what I'm trying to say: I totally agree with Hamma in terms of his stance on the recent flux of "elitism" and what not. It isn't something this community needs by any stretch of the immagination. But, I will say that you can't just come boppin' into this community with your troll outfit on, head on a swivel, looking to pick a fight. That's not getting anyone anywhere. It's frustrating. If an enlabeled "noob" enters the community, we should try our hardest to give the guy a chance. Though, I do think that tolerating some new guy's horseshit just because we want to be nice is a bit absurd, we should be willing to give second chances, god knows I've recieve more than may share of 'em ;).
Hamma, I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to the elitism thing and the whole trolling/flaming situation. Present members of PSU, you guys should know better, honestly. Future members, if you want to be a contribute to this community in any way you can: DON'T BE A DICK WHEN YOU FIRST GET HERE. Simple as that. If you can remember that rule and maintain it throughout your time at PSU, then you'll be a welcome and respected member of the community. But if you plan on joining just to pick fights, then get the fuck out. We're not interested.
On a side note: Anyone else notice how close this community actually is? It's pretty surprising.
