I came home tonight and got on my comp. It wouldn't do anything. So I restarted my computer. Came to the XP login screen, but a window saying something like, "Your profile is unable to be accessed. It may have been corrupted. Contact the administrator." It then logged me on on a temporary client. I do not believe I have administrator privliges and if I do, I don't know how to use them. How would I go about fixing this?

Just me. We reformatted recently and only one profile was made.

If the Admin profile is corrupted, you will need to restore from a backup or reinstall XP.

The Admin profile is basically godmode in Windows, which you don't need for normal computer use.

Making two profiles is a good idea, one to install programs and such, and the other for normal use.

Use the non Admin profile and that will help combat problems with viruses, worms, trojans, and even spyware, because only the Admin account allows system file changes.

It's possible the corruption was by a third party...

I would have to play with it to get any better answers...XP Home or Pro?

Pretty sure it's home. I was gonna reformat soon anyway, but I'd like to retrieve some of the documents I had saved. Is there anyway I can do that?

you can do a repair install that basicaly reinstalls windows but saves your registry so you don't lose anything

Could you hook me up with directions for that? That way I can get my junk back, and maybe my comp will be free of some of the adware and viruses and shit.
