So Ive been in Upstate New York for approximatly 3 or 4 months now. Its been great. Aside from two little things. The cops up here are asshats. During September I was pulled over for going 35 in a 30. Ok, I was pissed and nervous. My first speeding ticket. Ever. I went to court for it and got it knocked down to parking on the pavement and 100$. So today I am on my way to school (where I am now) when I am suddenly pulled over for going 38 FUCKING MPH IN A GOD DAMN 30 FUCKING 5. Absolute tyranical BULLSHIT. What the fuck am I going to do now? I dont have enough to pay for MORE insurance. The court date is Nov 4th. Do you think if I go there claim to still have a clean record (the first ticket shouldnt be on it yet seeing as I havnt done my Defensive driving requirement for the first one) they will give me the defensive driving thing again? I hope to god that would happen. Id just bring the same certificate to both of them.

Your black arent you....

I was in a car with 3 other black guys we got pulled over because the Cop thought he saw smoke coming out of the windows. We didnt point out that even if there WAS smoke it doesnt mean illegal drugs, cigarettes put off smoke aswell. Funny thing was that no one smokes ANYTHING anyway. What a dick.

Come to Calyfornya. If you do the speed limit here, you'll be cited for going to slow. Your a traffic hazard as your going 55 and everyone else is dong 65-70+

Heh, but I understand your frustration. Driving up to Oregon doing 75+ on I5, then you see the signs "reduced speed ahead" and you know your approaching the border. You then force yourself down to just under 55 (which is damn annoying) and then look in your rear view mirror and watch the Oregon state trooper follow you all the way down the mountain salivating.

I think it really depends from state to state. In some of them, they really don't care too much about speed so long as your not a hazard to anyone else or excessive. While others it appears that they completely fund thier department and paychecks by the number of ticketes they write.

Peace, was the cop useing "VasCar" to time you? Should say on the ticket. In PA even if the VasCar said you were going 10 mph over, it's not accepted in court. That's if I recall correctly.

I <3 Navaron.

You're driving on Government owned property, so I'm pretty sure they can bitch at you when you do something you aren't supposed to do. :)

I was pulled over in upstate NY once when going to see Jenny. Course, I was going 80 in a 50.

I don't know anything about driving, but surely it's hard to keep it at a perfect constant speed? If so, the cop was being an arsehole for pulling you over those two times.

Well, it may not be nice, or normal, but theres not much you can do or complain about. You broke the speed limit

BTW, this is a shitty school comp and the apostrophe key is borked

My friends make fun of me when I go a few mph under the speed limit.

They shouldn't, however, as they're in the flight program as well.

And while getting a speeding ticket won't necessarily get you kicked out of the flight program, it certainly won't help you when you're sitting in an office at Delta HQ applying for a job. If you can't obey simple traffic rules, afterall, how can they trust you with a multi-million dollar piece of exceptional engineering? Oh, and you know, the lives of 300+ people.

Wow, people are quick to judge here are they not? In my opinion two to three miles over the limit is perfectly normal, I don't know about you but keeping a constant speed of sixty in a zone of sixty can seem easy but it's tad more difficult then how it looks. It's 99.9% sure that your speed will vary unless your on cruise control.

The cop acted like an ass and should have acted less strictly. I'm sure there were people going WAY over the speed limit but you were the one that got targeted even thought it was only a couple of miles over the limit...

Tough luck... drive slower :p!

Breed
2004-10-22, 02:13 PM
It may be normal, but the limits are their for a reason.
Complaining about cops that do their job is pointless.

Come to Michigan, 5 over is fine. In Indiana however, they don't even have "Reduced Speed Limit Ahead" signs, so you have no fucking clue when the limit changes until you get past the corn stalks that are 30-feet high and pass the sign at 80 MPH that says "Speed Limit 40."

Navaron
2004-10-22, 03:06 PM
Just to clarify, the "quit breaking the law, asshole" is a quote from Liar Liar, I wasn't calling him an asshole.

Although calling cops "tyranical" for enforcing legislation set forth by the people of the state that you were willfully breaking would borderline on it.

Simple enough, if you don't want tickets, don't speed. It's one of the traffic hazards you can truly control.

Dharkbayne
2004-10-22, 03:09 PM
It's kinda assholish when they pull you over for going 3 miles over, though.

3mph over rarely holds in courts. the problem is with the inherent margin of error with radar detectors.

fight it.

mind you: i'm planning on going into law enforcement and opened this thead intending to defend the officers in question, but 3 over is stupid. why? it's probably not unsafe.

sometimes that kind of ticket is issued because the officer needs to meet his or her monthly speed ticket quota, so don't be too quick to upset at the officer either - they *might be* just trying to hold a job.

why do i see everyone bringing up numbers such as 2 t 3 mph. He wasn't going 2 or 3 mph he was going 5 to 8 mph. so where do get these numbers from?

i could see you getting pissed off if you were going a couple of mph over the speed limit but not 5-8 mph over the speed limit. that is just your own fault not the cops.

Anyway, I feel for ya man, here in the UK you're legally allowed to go 3-4 mph over the limit because of the possible inaccuracy of the speed guns and/ or the speedometers. :)

Eh Ohio doesn't really care how fast you go, ive gone 80 in the 65 and flew right past a cop and he didnt do anything. Only a few small cities have assholes that pull you over, my dad got a ticket for 1 mph over the speed limit. Course in court he got it fixed but still it was stupid.

Floridas the worst, a cop is at a light, first person in line. Some hillbilly goes through a horribly obvious red light.

Cop doesnt give a shit and goes the other way.

I was going like 80 all the way from tampa to orlando and back, cops diddnt care :p
