View Full Version : The Depression
What songs do you find to be tearful/moving/sad whatever?
I ask, simply because I just finished watching Johnny Cash's Hurt video for the first time, and holy shit. Depressing. Needless to say, my vote goes for this.

"For no one" by the Beatles is pretty depressing, but I'm sure there's worse.

Just kidding. We all get sad sometimes. I don't really know by name any depressing songs. Actually there's this Church song I know, but it's in Spanish.

Safety Dance
It can create any emotion, sadness about the dancers' struggle, happiness about the dance, anger about the ignorance of the friends
It's a moving piece of literature and song
An Opera, really

On October 7th 2000 my little brother died at the age of 19 in a rock climing accident.
That night I spent with my Family Consuling them and just kinda being in charge, keeping the Rubber neckers away, answering the phone, dealing with the dog and so on.
The next day I was driving to a friends store for some down time when the song "How's it Gonna be" by Third Eye Blind came on
About half way through I broke down and had to pull to the side of the road. It was the first time I cried for James... not the last, but it was that initial outpouring of grief.
To this day I can't hear that song without getting choked up.
As an interesting side note to that story. The one girl in the world I really dug, Jen, had pissed me off about a month before, so much so that I had decided to end any relationship we had. At James's funeral Jen's mom came up to me and gave me her condolances and said that Jen wishes she could have been there but Couldn't. I knew she had not come because of me, not wanting to make a hard situation worse for me.
It kinda gave me a realization. From James' death to Jen's mom it all sorta hit me that I was living way too afraid. I let the emotional rush die down a bit then called Jen (This would be in November, I was in Alaska at the time on Bussiness) After a lot of talking we reconciled our friendship. In January we started dating.
On May 21st 2004 we were married.
At our wedding we danced to "How's it gonna be" the DJ thought we were nuts, but we did it in honor of a little brother lost, but never forgotten.

It's an american saying (and I thought more universal)
Some one who take a great deal of time looking in on soe one elses misery. Like when there is a bad accident on the highway and everyone stops to look we would say "great stupid Rubber neckers are slowing it all down" Then Rubber neck ourselves to see if there's any good blood.

Stories by Trapt, Waiting by Jimmy's Chicken Shack, and a number of songs off of Maroon 5. Mostly because they relate a lot to experiences I've had personally.

There are 2 songs that have that sort of effect on me, and its not really because of the song either.
The Cure - Lovesong
Blink 182 - I Miss You
Those 2 songs sorta had special meaning to me and my ex-gf when we were dating. I guess you could call them "our songs". Now in case you haven't heard me go on one of my rants in IRC, I loved the girl very dearly and then she left me after a 15 month relationship, saying she just didn't have feelings for me anymore. A few weeks later she was sleeping with another guy. I was emotionally tore up pretty bad and I still have a few issues concerning the whole thing even today... despite how badly she hurt me, I still can't help but miss her and get a bit misty when I hear either of the songs. I know, I'm a big softie. :p
