BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox have pulled out of Fenway Park, and the city is greeting the World Series champions.

Pedro Martinez held a sign reading "Idiots Rule," a reference to the team's self-description as a "bunch of idiots."

Others waved and videotaped the crowd as the World Series trophy was held high.

Celebrating fans have been converging on the parade route for hours before its scheduled ten a-m start.

The parade will continue down Boylston Street, around Boston Common, past City Hall and into the Charles River. The players will be riding in amphibious "Duck Boats" that travel on land and water.

Millions of fans are expected to descend on Boston. That led parade organizers yesterday to extend the route from City Hall Plaza to the Charles River.

The Duck Boats will do a "victory lap" in the river on the amphibious vehicles. (AP)

It was an amazing thing to watch on TV, it makes me proud to be from where I am and it even makes me proud to be an american. It's like nothing I have ever seen before and probably will never see again. Millions of people lining the streets, the river, hanging out windows - on roofs. Just everywhere there could be a person cheering there was. People charging across the city to run to the next vantage point to see the team. I'm regretting not taking the train in to watch it in person.

This is what being a sports fan in New England is all about :D Next up: The Patriots 3rd Championship :D
