View Full Version : The 'Exploration Commendation'

Doesn't anyone but me think it's just pointless? Spend 10ish minutes goin cont to cont endin up with just 900xp the better and a little coloury thingy on ur shoulder. They should make it that every commendation you get you get an extra certy point :)

you have all sorts of ideas they just aren't very well thought out, they put the cap at 24(?) certs so no one person could have every cert and you would have to work with people in a team
and this isn't a flame just to let you know, ideas are good

If they were serious about limiting certs, they never would have made combinations. (ie Air Cavalry).

They are serious about limiting cert points. However some certs were not being used fully so they combined them to add diversity to the battlefield, not so they could become a one man army.

No one told me you had to put on "help-Start" when getting the merit. I just spent 1 hour getting the merit wondring why there was nothing coming up teaching me about PS. No i will never know. Thanks devs, pointless merit.

Actually, if you go to the training screen (the one with all the little checkboxes) you can scroll through and read it from there, just double click on whichever cont/monolith and the screen should pop up like it normally would. Some prick in an Aphelion was camping the monolith on ceryshen when I went there and I had to go through and find it that way.

I have never really understood the OMA argument, you can't carry all the weapons or drive all the vehicles even if you do have all the certs, so what is bad about it?
On the other hand I like teamwork, but as it is there are too many cert points (23) available to promote that.
Rexo is only 3, so the change from Surgile probably didn't do a lot to promote teamwork.
So really, what would be the difference?

Somebody mind explaining it to me? I haven't had a chance to log on today.
You just arrive at each continent to get credit, or is there a specific area (monolith?) that I'd have to visit?

It could work either way. The certification point business is an RPG mechanic, mainly. Certification points are the main reason for people to want to gain battlerank, after all, and because gaining battlerank takes time, it adds a healthy incentive for people to want to stick with Planetside.
So you're not wrong, you're just asking for something that PS wasn't designed to give. The RPG elements are only going to get stronger now that these merits are being added. And Samhayne has already said that he would like to add ways to advance your character to specialize, having to choose a path for your character, rather than being able to do everything. Similar to ceritifications.

Yeah, but first you have to get past the monolith campers. You know, the guys who sit at each one with BFRs...

The way it is now, I can log in as TR and switch to NC, that should be a no no. It should be, that when I log in, I am locked into that empire for about 24 hours, no switching.

OK back to the commendation things. OK, so you disaprove of it making you get an extra cer point. If not that they shud make it you get something else, because all it is at the moment really is just 900xp that you could have easily got in quarter the time it takes to do the exploration thingy by killin people. How about ... Uhh ... it gives you err... any ideas anyone?

Camping the monolith for two reasons -
one, the same reason that Emerald VS are camping bases with platoons of Aphelions
two, to piss off all those treehugging fairy-loving Ceasefire advocates. Nothing greater than watching an NC or VS come boldly marching up, voice-macro'ing the shit out of you and sending tells saying something like "dont shoot" or "truce", and then imagining the look of surprise on his purple little face when an MCG chews up his health and armor.
Yeah.
I love being an asshole.

Why the hell are people camping the monoliths :lol:Personally I feel it's a pretty cheap and skill-less tactic. Although I was pleasently surprised to find that some campers actually have a conscience and made sure people got the help window at the monolith before killing them.
I managed to get my badge last night totally on foot - not once did I ride in a vehicle. TR didn't have a lot of broadcast gates last night either - meant some long walks across enemy continents to even get to the right gates and more long walks if the gate was not near the monolith. Was not happy to be picked off by a BFR camper when I was finally 1 grid away after a 2 continent walk and booted back to Sanc. Such is the game I guess but you'd think folks would find something a little more forfilling to do besides:<--- mono camper for about an hour today, logged with a 72/1 k/d

Did the CR5s get clues to where on each cont the mono's are on. If they were they shouldn't have. The Merit would have been more well earned if everyone looked around for a while. Also, what dous everyone think on the messages u get from gettin 2 em? Personally, I think they came up with the stuff in 3-5 mins. Thats just my opinion. :)

Just look for one or two hotspots in the middle of nowhere. That'll be the guys camping the monoliths fighting the guys showing up to get their exploration merit. I found all of my monoliths that way.

Its not going to all the conts it going through them and finding the monoliths giveing you some history of that cont, i like it i dont like the idea of people becomeing one man armys. i also saw some great areas finding them witch just gets you to understand how much work and how good the cont look.

it isn't a secret, nor are they hard to find. i just flew to the hotspots showing up in the middle of nowhere on each continent - using this list wouldn't have made much of a difference to me, and it's convenient.

Well if you think about it, if ppl hadn't been given clues and stuff, those hotspots might not be there
