Okay, first off, I take back most of what I said before. WoW has some potential. Let me explain my RPG Creds first. EQI, AO, AC, DAoC are the four I have the most time in.
So I got into the beta as you know, and was VERY put out with the quest system. My bro-in-law to be, said "go horde man" so I did.
Tauren, Hunter. And let me tell you what, I got to see WoW as it should be.
I made it to 50xp below lvl 12 in less then 3 days of intermittent play time. I also worked up my leather working and skinning skills. I HATE CRAFTING, but in this case, it was enjoyable. I loved scrounging the noob regions for carcassess I could snatch free skin off.
That sounded bad.. anyway, I never had a problem with people KSing, or too many people doing the same quest as I was making lines of people trying to kill that "one mob"
If you are gonna play this game, might I HIGHLY recommend the Tauren as the way to go. The area is very open, the quests fun and the cities easy to navigate. Oh and go hunter, they roxx.
I did still have a few problems this morning, post final patch.
First off, was the patch updater... they needs to fix that. It was unacceptably slow. I know, everyone was trying to get it. They should be prepared for such.
Secondly, my pet. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. Dismiss didn't make me "lose the pet" so I couldn't finish one quest to get a pet cause I couldn't figure how to lose hte one I had. that sucked.
The graphics. Yes, they are solid, yes they are in some ways pretty, but the cartoonish look of the Warcraft Series still bugs me. This is purely a personal thing.
And lastly, the most annoying part of the game, aggro radius. I died more times due to mobs I couldn't see comming from behind a hill, or off screen, then anything else. The aggro system is just... the pitts.
Other then that, WoW seems to have potential, and would rate it at this point on a 5 * scale:
**** Fun
*** Graphics
**** Sound
*** Playability
*** Lasting appeal
*** Inginuity
3.5* overall. A decent buy for those looking for an MMO that isn't too demanding, and fans of the War Craft series its a must buy.
Maybe in 4 months when my EQ time cards have expired, I might come play the retail, we shall see.
