As I opened the door to go get the newspaper this morning I noticed a ball of fur on the chair of my porch, my natural curiosity made me poke it. The ball of fur turned it heads to reveal the green eyes of a brown cat with black lines all over it's body, it had a big golden bell with a red collar around it's neck and has he let a small "meow" out I noticed that his hair was pretty thick and had knots in it (meaning he had been in the wild for a long time since he wouldnt have shed to a winter coat had he been an interior cat).
The poor thing shivered and kept looking at me, I went inside and gave it some food and left him there thinking he would leave... It's been about seven to eight hours and he still doesnt leave... he's just sleeping there looking at me if I look a him throught my window.
What should I do? I already have a kitten and I can't have another animal without my landlord being a bitch about it.
Any ideas? He's so cute and cudly! If sputty lives in the ottawa region I could always go and give him the cat but I don't know if he does :p !

Thanks I'll try to find the Canadian equivalent of it. Hopefully Sputty will see this thread and confirm he lives near Ottawa and come get it :p.

That's why he didn't leave. And he isn't going to unless you stop feeding him.
But feeding him was still the right thing to do. I wouldn't stop feeding him either cuz then I would feel bad.

Yeah tommorow I'm going to give him some more kibble and water then phone for animal control or something.
You said it had a collar and bell on right? Take a few pics of it. Print out a few with "Cat Found, Looking for owner" on it. Staple them on telephone poles around "da hood" :)

Yep big golden colored bell. Good idea... I'm going to print an add in the local paper. (Free thanks to a friend that works there :))
not to be a bitch or anything, but how big of a town do you live in? 'Cause, I know most ads, around here at least, cost an arm + first born, and, giving those away free is likely to endanger that friends job.
But thats just my mileage. If you're int a tiny town, then go ahead.
And if your landlord finds out and starts give you problems just give him/her some sob story like, "I can't just leave it outside in the cold. And if the shelter doesn't find it's owner with in a few days they'll put it down. :tear:" Then suggest you keep it till you find the owner. hehe :)

The local newspaper that I meant is a cooperative newspaper. It's for our Neighbourhood wich basicly is four pages long that adresses the issues of our private sector.

That's why it wouldn't leave, been out on it's own for ever and you give it food, it's not gonna leave for a while at least knowing it can get food there.
True but I think for the heath of the animal it is better to give it some food and water then try to look for it's owners.

Well done on feeding the poor thing. Bring it in, give it a flea bath and a brush, and call Animal Control to pick it up. Give the poor thing lots of food and cuddles... and I'd recommend giving the landlady a sob story to prevent you from getting yourself into a world of shit.
Poor thing.

I came here at first for another solution... (other then animal shelters since I don't like the way they treat the poor things) but all in all I think that and an add is the best thing to do.

Animal shelters are shitty places for animals - that's where we got our Nephthys, that beast was so grateful to be liberated.
If there's a Humane Society around, take her there. They treat the animals better and the conditions are a lot more.... humane.
I.e. the shelter we got Nephthys from = smelled like poop, animals screaming, confined to concrete windowless rooms in a steel cage.
Humane society where we got Isis = clean, animals pretty complacent, more people coming through to socialise them, etc.

Take it inside, Simmer some butter in a pan, add some pepper and seasoning, skin cat, apply to pan, let sit for 20-40 minutes , 10 minutes cooling, add garnish.

Yeah, if you fed it, its now yours...at least in the cats mind he is.
When we first moved into our house, this oragne cat kept coming around and getting chummy. We didn't want a cat, so I made loud noises and chased it away. It came back. I threw pine cones and rocks at it. It came back. I got teh hose and squirted him. He came back. I picked him up an threw him. He came back. So....I said fine, you win. We didn't adopt him, he adopted us.
Now we get worried whenever he's late to our door for food. Can't go a day without giving him a good rub down. That cat is such a suck up.
