Yeah, that's what I was thinking. But I read some of the posts on the 3dMark website and there are still people scoring 10,000+. It seems like systems like Hijinks' and Zatrias' should be scoring higher.

4500 is average for systems like mine, no OC'in... the guys that break 5 or 6k are huge overclokers..
As for Nvidias comment, it's just a kneejerk reaction they where in on the development of 3dmark03....

Because this is a DX9 benchmark, some of the tests are not even run on any existing GF card.

3DMark03 test consists of
4 Game tests
1 DirectX 7.0
2 DirectX 8.1
1 DirectX 9.0
CPU tests
Fill Rate test
Single-texturing
Multi-texturing
Vertex Shader 1.1 Test
Pixel Shader 2.0 Test
Ragtroll test
Sound test
0 sounds
24 sounds
60 sounds
thats a grand total of 2 tests that GF can't do.... Pixel shader 2.0 and the Dx9 test or populary knows as nature2.

Actually, the GF4 is apparently ONLY DX8.0. Thats two game tests run in software and one not run at all.

3480...
Woah hold on a second here, why's my score only 1991? I have almost the same setup you guys running 4000+ have. What am I doing wrong?
I have an AMD 2500+
9700 Pro
512 corsair ram pc2700 333mhz
60hz refresh on monitor currently (can go up to 85, dont know if this matters??)
Here's a link to my test compared to the person that started this thread.

edit - Does it matter what resolution I run my test on? I ran my test at 1024x768

do you have any AA or AF turned on? because that will affect it.
Well yea I have AA at 4x and AF at 16x...Am I supposed to run it with AA and AF off? Is that what everyone else does?
Alright I ran it with AA off and I got 4405. Phew.

1900. :)
Perfectly fine for me, all my games run just fine. We don't need DX 9 cards just yet. :) I'm waiting to see what nVidia has in store for their next card. :D

OK, wtf. I had a score of 4865 with 512 ram. Now I have 4882 with a gig. How the hell does that work?

Nav, I the lack of difference in your scores suggest that 3Dmark's game simulations do not require 512 megs of (non video) memory, so there was no reason for your cache to have to call loads from your hard disk.
Since 512 ram was enough, any extra is not going to make much of a difference on your score.
Put 4 gigs of ram in your computer and you will still not see a difference.

2003-04-07, 06:58 PM
Nah, it can only handle 3 gigs. Sheeeeiiit.
See there is one issue with compairing marks at this point still.
3D MARK 03 does not say what you video card settings are. It fails to say if you have AA turned up to 4x or turned off and the same with a lot of other important adjustments for eye candy.
I have a:
P4 2.85 ghZ
Asus P4T533-C mobo
512 PC 800 RDRAM
Radeon 9700 PRO (OCed 353/335)
60 & 80 gig WD HD w/ 2mb catch
then DVD and CDRW drives (plextor)
My 3D Mark 03 score: 3815
This is with the quality turned up on high on my video card. I never cared to see what score I would get with the options turned on low seeing I am benching for myself to see what quality i can pull out of my card vs performance.

Make sure you look at the res they use. They use something like 320x240 to get those scores.
