HL2 Problems Lets hear em gang!

Well mine was STARTING THE GAME!

Loaded 90% into the first chapter and got a fatal read error, CD drive spun up and my comp crashed!

WAY TO GO VALVE!

And I have, yes all the latest drivers.

Ran it again, when the status bar reaches to the last one to go, I hear a fient "ding ding ding ding ding" my CD Rom fires up and the game crashes, locking EVERYTHING up.

Making sure I have the latest SB files, think I do, but checking anyway

I got it to start fine, watched the first minute of the intro, now I'm going to bed.

Looks like a RAM-related problem. You could try running it on one stick, and swapping it for the other stick if it still doesnt work. Some RAM problems only surface when they have to handle a lot of data.

Edit- Actually, did you say your hard drive was making noises? If thats true then try running a scan disk.

Well, other than the fact that I think my Soundcard isn't quite up to handling the 5.1 anymore. Might have to consider an upgrade.. sound is stuttery on 5.1 with my Turtlebeach Santa Cruz.

Oh, and when I went to register my product, it makes you select what game you've purchased. I had that for a few mins. Just had to restart HL and it went back to normal.

This has happened to me before right click on Half Life 2 in your Games list and select properties, and just wait. It will start to automatically update if you want to make sure its updating when you do that right click on your steam icon in the system tray and hit monitor to show your network traffic. Hope that helps.

Oh I'm not suprised it sucks, first gen stuff always does, but that doesn't change the fact that even though I have a perfectly legal CD-key I still have to break out bittorrent to play it.
