"It was said ... that Alexander was never defeated, except by Hephaistion's thighs," the aged Ptolemy.

As Alexander the Great, Farrell speaks softly and sports a blond pageboy and mini-toga, looking a bit like something out of Queer Eye for the Macedonian Guy.

In scenes that may raise eyebrows with some action-movie fans, the Irish actor kisses two men - a Macedonian soldier and a hunky topless Persian castrato named Bogoas, who becomes his lover - full on the mouth.

I dunno, watching Collin Farrell kissing other men would make me gag. Thats just me though.

Couse this is Olvier Stone.. he goes for those sensational moments

Sorry, but I'm not not going to see a movie just cause it has a scene with two guys kissing. I'm sure it's not even much. It's not going to be gay soft core porn...

I wouldn't.

Not if she was nude the whole movie. But if it was just a scene, sure. I've seen Jack Nicholson's bare ass in a movie. Didn't make it any more worse then it already was.

Hate to break it to you, but there is evidence that Alexander the Great was bisexual by today's standards. It is beleived that in his day in age, in Greek society, it did not matter to them who they laid with. So... sacrifice greek history because a homophobe gets jittery... I don't think its gonna happen.

All because someone is uncomfortable watching two men kissing does not make them a Homophobe

The Fact that Alexander was probably Bi should be in little dispute to anyone who understnds Greek history It was thought that you were more likely to fight hard if the man next to you was polishing your pole. Gave incentive to win because... and everyone knows this... men think with their penises!

However I can understand why in todays age people would be less then comfortable!

My wife, a very liberal Psychologist who has worked with GLBT groups nationwide, wrote her dissertation on attitudes towards non-fatal Suicidal Behaviour in the GLBT comunity, and overall is the most accepting person of the Gay lifestyle known to man... will not see this movie for the exact same reason, watching men kiss makes her feel ill.

Now I know Homophobe is the new Racist as ar as quick terms to throw around, but let's try to restrain ourselves a little and have an open mind.

BTW

I'll go see Alexander because there is a fair to better chance of Angelina Jolie being naked... and that would make up for an entire pile of Gay men!

I'm sorry, its wrong to have an aversion to somethings?

I don't like pointless gratuitious violence either, does that make me a "violent-phobe"?

Please.

This thread was to bring this up, and see what people thought about it. So far its mostly "Vic's a homophobe because he isn't into watching movies where guys kiss."

I didn't say the movie was ruined, but its not my thing, and others may or may not feel the same way.

Whats funny, I have the Rocky Horror Picture Show, love that movie, one of my favorites, but an action movie, with guys getting that close. I think its ouf of place in such. I don't want to see the "Rock" go save his gay lover and then make out, but then, seeing Frankenfurter with a shotgun would be equally out of place.

Update of sorts, lawsuits are flying.

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=FF2W2FDL2XLQUCRBAELCF EY?type=entertainmentNews&storyID=6871038

ATHENS (Reuters) - A group of Greek lawyers are threatening to sue Warner Bros. film studios and Oliver Stone, director of the widely anticipated film "Alexander," for suggesting Alexander the Great was bisexual.

The lawyers have already sent an extrajudicial note to the studio and director demanding they include a reference in the title credits saying his movie is a fictional tale and not based on official documents of the life of the Macedonian ruler.

"We are not saying that we are against gays but we are saying that the production company should make it clear to the audience that this film is pure fiction and not a true depiction of the life of Alexander," Yannis Varnakos, who spearheads the campaign by 25 lawyers, told Reuters on Friday.

Stone was quoted on the MSNBC.com Web Site as telling the upcoming edition of Playboy magazine that the film's depiction of Alexander could offend some.

"We go into his bisexuality. It may offend some people, but sexuality in those days was a different thing," he was quoted as saying.

While the film starring Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie will be released on Nov. 24, Varnakos said he has already gathered enough information regarding the content of the movie to suggest there are "inappropriate references."

"We have not seen the film but from the information we have already there are references to his alleged homosexuality, a fact that is in no historical document or archive on Alexander," he said. "Either they make it clear that this is a work of fiction or we will take the case further."

This is not the first time Greeks have been angered by suggestions Alexander was homosexual and had affairs with young men.

Two years ago hundreds of northern Greeks from the province of Macedonia, where he was born, stormed an archeological symposium after one speaker presented a paper on the homosexuality of Alexander. Police were called in to evacuate the participants.

One of the greatest military leaders of all time, Alexander, who was never defeated in battle, conquered about 90 percent of the then-known world before his mysterious death at the age of 32, building an empire that stretched from the Mediterranean to Afghanistan.

Varnakaos said as Stone has the right to freely express himself, the audience should have the right to know.

"We cannot come out and say that (former U.S.) President John F. Kennedy was a shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and so Warner cannot come out and say Alexander was gay," Varnakos said.

The movie does not entertain.
It does not shock.
It does not fuck with your head.
Thoughts aren't provoked.

You might want to stick with that last thought and stay home when you are considering this one.

wankers... (the greek government, not anyone else :P)

wrecking up the country with that attitude, same thing that made the olympics slightly dubious in a few respects...plus the whole economy and life situation is going down steadily etc, although thats probably not to do with them having cultural over-sensitivity

least the movie can't be worse than Troy, which i had had some hopes for

not that i like Colin Farrell's acting much, though Jolie is promising :)...as to the whole gay kissing thingy, hope the Greeks get slapped around the court system

strangly though, i have some aversion to watching men kiss...wories me a bit, since i'm pro-gay on all the issues etc., but i can put down to cultural reasons...back in school it was the period of gay being the biggest insult, seems to have turned to acceptance in more recent years, anyhow, that and constant catholic ravings (also in school) probably have subversive affects...i wouldnt say an aversion is homophobia in all cases, more of a 'parents having sex' (sorry for bringing that up *shudder*) type thing, technically it shouldnt have any effect, but you know...

(hope this doesnt get kicked to pol deb cause of the issue :P)

Yep, same here. Angelina Jolie, or some other decent-looking chick naked would outdo the thing with two guys kissing.

But one hot chick does not overwrite all of the *ugh* in all cases. For example, at a nude beach, ten hot chicks would not excuse seeing a hundred ugly old women with saggy tits. Stay home and watch porn. Same thing, but no saggy old woman tits.

By the way, the OMFG pic was the funniest thing I've seen today.
