Looks like the guys who made all of the C&C games will be working on an upcoming star wars RTS.

Check it out:

It'll be another 10 years before this franchise is dead. :(

Former Westwood can do nothing but breathe new life into it.

(this was announced on the 9th by the way, you're slow :))

It's on my site and I had no idea that anyone here was interested in either Westwood or Star Wars.

Then obviously you didnt know that Hamma used to run a Tiberian Sun fansite. (Hamma.com? If I remember correctly). We all love westwood here, and how could a forum full of interweb nerds not love star wars?

TibSun was, while not horrible, my least favorite. :)

But Red Alert, now that's a game...

Yeah, I heard about this about a week back. Petroglyph (which, as mentioned, consists mostly of the Westwood staff) seems to be going in a good direction by making this game. Should be interesting to see a Star Wars game that isn't LucasArts or Sony. I'm guessing it will probably be a pretty decent game if those guys are working on it.

Edit- Former Westwood can do nothing but breathe new life into it.

They are in book version, just spread throughout multiple series.

Very cool, westwood was the coolest company ever. C&C kicked ass right up until EA ate it up and shit it out.

I'm fairly certain that they have to be authorized by Lucas.

Not canon, but the next best thing.

There has NEVER been a really good Star Wars RTS
Galactic Battlegrounds: Age of Empires with star wars
Force Commander: Weird system, stupid plot
Rebellion: More of a TBS, but it's technically an RTS, but it was way too hard and had annoying AI, only 2 sides

BTW, shitty games of C&C and westwood:
Red Alert 2, That Dune remake(not dune 2000, the later one), Earth and Beyond, never played Tiberian sun so can't say.

RA2, shitty?

You have got to be kidding me; that's one of their most successful games.

Earth and Beyond Online was Brilliant.

2004-11-20, 07:10 PM
Yes, Earth and Beyond, offers the great fun of mining, boring leveling, simple and similar ships and few weapons, beams, missiles and guns! OMG SO MUCH TO DO!!!
In fact, EA cancelled it outright.

And RA2, the most annoying, cartoony, horrible plot that they put too much emphasis on, with dumb characters, annoying units and weird graphics that don't remind me so much of RA1, but rather a morning cartoon
Successful does not equal good
If that were true just about every sports game would be good

Fehronozova
2004-11-20, 07:25 PM
Sports is a different realm altogether, but I digress.

Red Alert 2 was purposely corny and that was a big risk. It paid off.
I know that many RA fans were upset by this, but it brought in a horde of new players.
I loved RA2's corniness and bad acting.

Also, what's the difference between Earth & Beyond's grinding and nearly any other MMO's grinding? The game still had a following when it was cancelled.

This is EA people.

I actually enjoyed all those games, including Emperor, I actually had quite a bit of fun with it. It was also the first westwood game to use 3 factions.

I would have to say, that my favouiret C&C game was tiberian sun. It had probably the coolest story, and some really great actors.

I've always had this idea for an RTS, you guys tell me what you think.

I got it in my head when I first heard one of you guys talk about Empire Earth, the expansion thing. It sounded so kickass, I decided to go get it. Little did I know that in this game, space was just the ocean... but it looked different. Total bullshit, that was. I've always wanted to see a game where you and your opponent start off with one planet each, and there's like 12 planets total on the map, then you start off by colonizing the nearby planets, then you use the planets to support your objectives. Like some planets could be mostly resource worlds, while others would be like Reach in Halo, entire worlds dedicated entirely to producing militaries. Then your opponent can send their guys to take your planets from you, so you need to have standing armies to defend your worlds. And vice versa, obviously. You can win with less planets, but the more you have, the more effective you'll be. Basically the same idea as Empire Earth: AoC attempted to use, but it doesn't suck ass.

Jimma was actually a friend of mine in RL - I had this site up while I was still in HS - went to school with him. I havent talked to him in ages, the others I havent seen in ages either. Every now and then one of them looks me up on IRQ but thats about it.

As a player of the C+C series since the original i have to disagree.

The only Command and Conquer games i didn't like were "Tiberium Sun" (Although it could have been good if they worked longer on it) and "Renegade".

The latest installment of generals was fantastic imho and that was produced by EA.

Tiberian Sun was in my opinion the most refined of the series and very well balancd (without ridiculous super-weapons). It was extremely challenging, had some interesting and innovative units and a great storyline.

I never saw the fascination with Red Alert to be honest. Red Alert 2 was fun, but I still preferred Tiberian Sun.

While the original Generals was at least balanced in multiplayer, it has an atrocious single player, the worst story known to man and an expansion pack which completely ruins multiplayer game balance in virtually every respect by introducing cheese tactics and nigh on unstoppable super units.

How could you say Generals was balanced? The Chinese Gattling Tank was so insanely overpowered. I played Generals a lot, but I was a USA player (and before that a Random player), and the Gattling Tank was just ridiculously overpowered.

Also, I didn't play a lot of Zero Hour, since I quit shortly after I got Zero Hour, but the superweapon general only became powerful if you were an idiot to let the player get AA's... you need to attack quickly before he can tech to Strat Center.

Well, I didn't dislike TibSun as much as others do.
My main gripe with it is the unit health.

Infantry unit one: "Blam, blam, blam, ::deep breath::, blam, blam, blam, blam, blam, dead yet?, blam blam ::dies of exhaustion::

Normally I'd like units to last longer, but I felt it was too long.
But then diskers would instagib them. :)

Loved the walkers though, they were silly looking.

And one last thing: It didn't seem very C&C to me. Too far from the norm.
