The last 5 FPS's I have played have all done the exact same plot twist. They all started out fighting a normal enemy then introduce some sort of scary monster half way through. This is interesting a few times but it is really getting old. What gives? Why do they keep doing the exact same thing.
The last 5 FPS's I have played are:
Halo 1,2- the flood
doom- demons
farcry- trigen
half life 2- head crab's and all that freaky alien shit
When are they going to come up with a new way to make games interesting? I mean name any non world war 2 shooter and there is a 90% chance it does the exact same thing. Even some ww2 shooters follow this plot (wolfenstein). Am I the only one who is sick of it?

Halo 2 does not introduce a new creature, you just know deep inside that you will be fighting the flood.

you fight a headcrab in the second level, were your escaping the the sewer.in addition to the thingys with the long tounge things.
thats not helfway though, and you know all along that headcrabs will be back. along with teh zombies that they make.
It would be nice to have one of the "Epic" shooter realeases that we have every so often just stick to normal, non-supernatural/monstrorus, enemies.

Ehhhh, HL and Doom start with the weird things, in fact, the plot twist in HL is that you fight human enemies. Doom the only plot twist is you find out the doctor is ebil

A little theme difference between those 5 games stated and this one. Sifi vs. whatever the theme is for GTA.
With a game like HL and Halo, you can't expect any less, its sience fiction, its going to happen. What would you want?

Two words:
COLD WAR
I'd like to see a sim (hell, even a spinoff of Call of Duty) where you fight the Cold War gone horribly wrong. Nobody touches this, EVER.
Chapter 1
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 1962: You are part of a SpecOps squad that doesn't exist, meddling in Cambodia. After a few (2 or 3) levels battling the Khmer Rouge, culminating in leading a masterful SpecOps and Cambodian Naval Infantry assault on a temple, you recieve orders to recall at once to your base.
At base, you learn that U-2 spyplanes over Cuba have detected surface-to-surface missile sites. As a twist from history, a CIA agent assassinates USSR Premier Kruschev that same day, heating the red-hot situation and leading to a declaration of war.
Chapter 2
Miami Beach, USA, then Sagua La Grande, Cuba
You take off in a small plane flying very low to avoid Castro's SAM sites. You are paradropped into Cuba with your squad. You eventually destroy a local medium-range missile site. The chapter ends with another omnimous call to an extraction point.
Chapter 3
Miami Beach, USA
You learn from the helicopter pilot picking you up that Washington DC is now a smoldering pile of rubble- a missile from Cuba was fired off and has hit the capital. President Kennedy has survived but is incapacitated as well as the Vice President- as this is before the 25th Amendment, there is no successor to the presidency. You are flown to Germany to combat the Soviet tank drive...
et cetera.
The stakes get higher and higher, a few nukes go off over some major cities, and the game gets more exciting not by adding zombies, but by straining the plot.

There's this game called Iron storm that's a WWII spin-off. Basicly WWII never ended and the fight is now in our time with new tech from an never ending war. Never played it thought.

The sad thing is my version of the game is alot more likely to be made then yours.

I believe a game called Freedom Fighters was all about this. But then again I don't know if it counts as an FPS since I'm pretty sure it was like a 3rd person game.

a WW1 FPS would be a nice change of pace, WW1 was hell.

You never fight normal enemies in Doom, always demons. It's just that they start off looking human (zombies).
As for the head crabs and "all that freaky alien shit" in HL2, they are all from the original game, and were in fact, the "normal" enemies. The big twist was that you also had to fight humans.
A WWI FPS is something I have been waiting for for years.
A lot of the "fighting" in WWI came down to sitting in a trench until your commanding officer told you to charge a machine gun nest, at which point everyone in your unit was gunned down. If you didn't charge, you were shot for treason by the officer, who stayed in the trenches. That sounds like a whole lot of fun ;)

What annoyed me about Freedom Fighters was
1) Pink bullets
2) Enemies took too many hits to drop.

Halflife 2 had nothing over the first game beyond grafics and a stunning physics engine. You fought humans and aliens in the first one. You went to a wierd place with a souped up suit, you killed the head bad guy, and then G-man pulls your ass out right when you would die. EXACTLY the same plot progression. The only thing I hope they do is make HL3 on HL2's engine and make it a new and interesting plot. IMO Halflife 2 left mutch to be desired plot wise. There were time when I was like 'Oh wow this game is pimp as hell!" But when I think back to it, there are only really 5 or 6 of the ~15 chapters that I enjoyed.
Whoever knocked Vice City needs a good slap. That game is fantastic. Its the best of the 3 GTA3's and IMO is what GTA 3 should have been. Besides who actually playes those games for plot? Each of them is the same. Get screwed by someone, grow in power till your the biggest crime dude in town, and then crush whoever was putting you down in the first place.

1) Being colour blind clearly has some advantages! I thought they were red. (yes, that still makes no sense, but... red army, blood, heat... yeah, RED! :D):(
2)Really? I know the really well armoured ones took a bit, but the grunts were easy enough.
Great level design though, you have to admit.
