I've had really bad razor burn like all day now. I've put an ice pack on my face, and a few paper towels with some really hot water on them. My face still hurts. Any suggestions?

Take an Aleve and take a nap. Keep ice on it for as long as you can!

I don't know what that is.

Use a duller blade. Use more shaving foam.

Gillette after shave gel.

The blue one.

Or buy an electric razor, or not shave.

I have been informed that you get razor burn when you shave without shaving gel.

You sir, are an idiot.

It depends

If I shave while I'm in the shower to just touch up, I use soap and hot water...

If I'm shaving my wolverine-ness away, I use gillette gel.

Use a single-blade (or double) razor and dont go more than 2 times over the same spot. That'll save you a TON of problems. Lather that shit up and dont go against the grain. It wont be a close shave...but its a too close of a shave that causes razorburn.

Try exfoliating your skin to help the pain. Otherwise...wait it out, the hair will come out again soon.

Same here. Get an electric razor, it solves the problem.

Sodium hydroxide (found in drain cleaner) will ease the pain.

DISCLAIMER: I am kidding. NaOH is a very dangerous base.

if you didnt have the disclaimer, I probably would've done it. Im so, so gullible. I probably wouldve seen some warning labels before I actually used it, but still.

I used to shave only with gel, but i havents used anything besides water in over a year now. The trick is how you shave. If its a sharp razzor, then def do not go over the same place more than 2 times, otherwise go wild. Also, do you shave up or down?? Up is closer but can hurt like hell. I only go up for special events with the lady friend as it can suck. Other wise regardless of what you use or way you shave, use hot water to soften the hair first. I shave in the nice hot shower before washing my face. Soak it in the water then just shave down. Touch up after in mirror if you keep some facial hair like me. Viola

At a 20% concentration, it punched right through aluminum foil in 30 seconds.

Only use electric if you have soft facial hair. It does a crappy job on coarse hair, and the extra time you spend rubbing the razor against your face trying to get those stubborn hairs starts to chafe your skin.

When shaving, ONLY use a sharp razor. The people who suggest using a dull razor don't know what they're talking about. A dull razor will tug your facial hair and uneven sharpness can create small burrs on the blade that irritate and scratch the skin. Shave using the hottest water you can stand, preferably after a shower. This will soften up your scruff, and your skin will be more flexible = less razor damage! It doesn't matter if you use shaving gel or cream. Let it sit on your face for a minute or two, to help soften the hair further.

When I shave, I divide my face up into 6 regions (right/left cheek, right/left neck, mouth, throat) Finish an entire region at once, so that the skin doesn't air dry after the shaving cream is shaved off. Shave a region by moving the blade in short, firm strokes with the grain of your beard. Then immediately go back over the region against the grain with longer, smooth strokes. Rinse the blade often with hot water so the hair doesn't build up. When you're all done, rinse with cool or cold water (your choice) and apply some after-shave gel (http://www.theessentials.com/store/prodinfo.asp?number=1040&variation=&aitem=5&mitem=7&bc=2_1).

Punch yourself in the nuts 4 times... that should take your mind off all other pains.

This is also my advice when thinking about taking a girl out for a date... but it saves you 50 bucks..

We still wanna know: Have your balls dropped yet?

And to whoever suggested using a dull razor, that makes things worse.

Also:

If I don't shave atleast once a day I turn into a wolverine type creature... its scary.

And to whoever suggested using a dull razor,

It was me. I didn't know razor burn was, so I assumed he was literally scraping his face off with it. I assumed a duller razor would help NOT scrape his face off.

But I love this thread. "OMG I HAVE FACIAL HAIRS!"*
