THIS BUTTON IS A LINK DIRECTLY TO THE SELF-EXECUTING INSTALLER. (http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox&os=win&lang=en-US)

please.

you know it'll be good for you.

besides, i want to switch to .png for my avatar, and internet explorer doesn't know how to render transparency correctly, because it sucks.

if you refuse to switch, post your reasoning, so that i'll know why i hate you.

I've had the fox since 0.7a

Gotta fucking love it.

I didnt think it got better, until I discovered extensions and themes around 0.8. Dear god :drools:

edit: I'm a Mozilla whore. Thunderbird for the win :)

I need to get a Firefox shirt.

I hated it the first time I tried it.

Then I saw my professor using Mozilla, and I went to the computer lab after class and tried it. I liked it.

When I came home, my friend Gavin had a link in his AIM profile to Firefox, and I clicked it retardedly thinking it was Mozilla.

Downloaded and installed Firefox, wasn't sure about it at first. Had to configure it.

Now I LOVE it.

LOVE.

Highly recommend it.

Netscape? NETSCAPE?

Please, for the love of god, switching from Netscape to Firefox would be like going from a 87' Duster with no wheels to a Lamborghini.

so give me details on why i should switch?

ChronoSphere
2004-11-30, 11:56 PM
I've been using mozilla since 0.8.
Why switch?
Tabbed browsing
the best fricken popup blocker known to man
You can get RSS readers for it
A lot harder to get spyware on your machine by websurfing on Firefox.

Laziness, and I don't have any problems with IE.

Tried, tested, and true.

summary: internet explorer is bad.

firefox, a free open-source browser, is smaller and faster.
it has built in google search and popup blocker.
it has extensions and plugins that allow you to customize it beyond squeeky's wildest trips.
it lacks the security holes that ie has (and microsoft admits and announces).
it can display .png images correctly.
it uses tabbed OR windowed browsing - surf with one window or many
it has "copy image location" on the right-click dropdown from a picture

there's more.

edit: lazyness does not qualify. that link goes straight to the file, you worked a lot harder making the post about how lazy you are than you would have by just installing it.

I use firefox simply for tabbed browsing. I can't live without it anymore. I could care less about plugins, and skins. JUST GIVE ME TABS!

It's got everything and more

STFU. If more people keep saying that, they're going to start charging :( .

it's open source like mozilla.

what happens instead is IE (mosaic) and AOL (netscape) where corporations abuse the code and call it their own.

WHY NETSCAPE IS WORSE THAN FIREFOX:

Do you use half the crap from Netscape? My Netscape? Netscape Radio? Or even (gasp) Netscape AIM?

No.

Firefox is Netscape minus all the crap.

Certainly an interesting browser. Does anyone have any themes that are game / series related?

This is gay. I have settings on my keyboard that were set to load my email accounts, another forums and these forums and they don't work w/ firefox. I have it set as default browser and it still doesn't work. Basically firefox=retarded in my book, so I will propably be removing it. Thanks anyways.

I use Firefox because,

1. Internet Explorer is supervulnerable to popups.
2. Other people use it.
3. It has a cool name.

Firefox > Avant > Everything > Internet Explorer

I dont like the way pages look in firefox, besides that firefox probably has more holes than IE, the difference is FF isnt used as much thus hackers and asshats dont try to find holes. Once they do then it will be just as hosed IE :p

NightWalker XI
2004-12-01, 02:41 PM
First of all to firecrackerNC, Firefox keeps all your favoruites and you cann add them as a button on the abr below adress bar so even easier toa ccess your favs.

Hamma thats not true, not as many people use it but ALOT of people use FF but tis jsut more secure alla round, not because you think hackers haven't tried to work around it.

And ya, it has less holes, trsut me, I used IE for like 5 years and now Firefox for 4 months, huuuge difference and tis noticable, go try it.

Ghryphen
2004-12-01, 02:56 PM
What kind of security problems have you had with IE that there is a noticable difference? I have never seen any from any version of IE, but then I am not new to the internet and don't fall for simple minded trickery.

MS is a huge target, 1000's of people are trying to break their shit every day. Mozilla is beans at the moment, it isn't as big of a deal when there are security problems. And for both browsers the only security problems require the user to be dumb.

I've never had a problem with IE before either, but I like to live on the wild side and like to be adventurous! Parents lock your kids inside! Ivan is trying something new! hehe

I haven't played with FireFox much yet at all, what are these "Tabs" that many of you speak of?

My one problem with it is that there's no ActiveX support. Other than that, it's AWESOME! Oh, is there a way to automatically have a new window open in a new tab (currently, I have to right click and tell it to do that)?

I didn't understand what you ment about the scrolling till after useing it for a while. I'm not a fan of it either. And I don't know if it's just because I'm used to IE's form elements or what not, but I'm not a fan of FireFox's either. But these are minor things. I'm still getting used to it.

after you get a bit of practice firefox is just more powerfull, especialy when you learn mouse gestures.

i can highlight a bit of text and have my browser aoutomaticaly search for it on google withthe flick of a wrist

or say someone forgot to code a link in HTML or whatever highlight it and flick again it opens it up in a tab
