Hi guys.

A lot of you know I wanted to be a commercial airline pilot.

Well, after doing shitloads of toiling, and taking a Space Flight course, I made the decision that commercial aviation isn't what I want to spend my life in. No disrespect for commercial pilots, but I don't want a career that's going to leave me feeling like I'm in a rut. There's no room for creativity or individual thinking, and the whole environment is "my penis is bigger than yours", "NO I HAVE MORE FLIGHT HOURS MY PENIS IS BIGGER THAN YOURS." At least it is here, anyway.

So I talked about career options with my Space Flight professor (http://www.erau.edu/er/faculty/facultypages.html) and after much, much deliberation, I have made a decision.

My new major. (http://www.erau.edu/db/degrees/b-aeroengineering.html)

I am going to change from getting a BS in Aeronautical Science (with an airline pilot concentration) to getting a BS and a Master's in Aerospace Engineering (with a minor in flight and Space Studies).

I've decided that I want to do research and development of space crafts. I think that this is a much, much better career option for me - room for creativity, individual thinking, global cooperation, and the option to play with Space. Leetness.

I'll have to stay in college an extra 3 semesters, but I think it's small change. I'll graduate with a master's in engineering, so it'll be worth it.

I just wanted to share this exciting new development with you lot :)

Good idea trig. I never want to get into airlines. This is my analogy.

If your flying an airliner your a glorified fucking bus driver. Fuck that.

Triggar
2004-12-02, 12:39 AM
I hate that bus driver analogy.

ANyone can drive a bus.

Being a pilot isn't just operating an aircraft. Bus drivers don't have to know airspace dimensions and the required equipment for each one. They don't have to know procedures for when the alternator fails - because they can just pull over. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
