View Full Version : [PSUMB] Find A Restaurant!
Triggar
2004-12-01, 09:12 PM
Part 2 of the Interactive Planning Experience hath begun!
Your task: Find suitable restaurants in the San Diego area that will be good for the first night of the Mobilization, that Friday night.
Last year, after we checked in at the hotel and handed out loot, we headed to Medieval Times (and spawned the "YELLOW KNIGHT!!!" joke).
I'd like to do something that'll bond us all together and give us a good time.
Any ideas?
Links are appreciated, and an explanation of why you think the place is leet :)

MacDonalds. I like the little toys you get. They last hours, at least....
Wait, is this a poll?

Haha, no, this is a "collect ideas" thread.

Then in seriousity (whatever), I'd suggest Hard Rock Cafe (again) or... you know, I don't know much about West Coast food chains. Someone else think of something.
In-n-Out burgers are good.
Triggar
2004-12-01, 09:23 PM
Hard Rock Cafe is already booked for Sunday night - it'll become a traditional "end of the Mobilization" dinner :)
And I'm looking for serious recommendations for sit-down restaurants, you know, the kind with menu's, and waiters, and all that :p

something to do with mexican food. Seriously. I went to this really good mexican restuarant in San Diego when I was younger (6 or 7 years old). I had a huge sundae for desert. Can't remember much, except I think thier was a sun with a happy face on it on the sigh.
I love mexican food
Triggar
2004-12-01, 09:36 PM
Haha, help me find the name of the place. Then when we get a few good options, we'll make a poll and I'll book whatever wins :)
EDIT:
Look what I found!

Aztec, I did actually think about doing something along those lines - where we rent out a space, and have the dinner catered... it's something to consider. If you guys find anything, let me know!

I dont know, but for anyone who isnt from the West Coast, you need to make atleast one pilgrimage throughout the weekend to In N' Out Burger.

Hmm, can we rent a room at the hotel like you guys had for the Ask The Devs at PSU:MA and then use that as a nice dinner area that maybe even the hotel can cater?

That's an idea... Sony might do something like that for our dinner with them on Saturday.
I'd like for the group to go out for dinner - makes us feel like we're getting our money's worth! :)

Starbum, not as an official outing for the group. But for a small fee, I'll sort something out for the after-hours miscreants :brow:
Basically what I'm looking for is a "safe" meal - i.e. if there's seafood, there's got to be an option for a burger, something like that, so that everyone can have something they'd eat. It should be something that's preferably not a chain restaurant, that's native to the city we're in.
Something that from drinks to dessert costs about $20 to $25 a person.
Something I can pay for in advance!
Thanks :p

1. It's perfectly safe, as long as the poison sacs are avoided. And although I wouldn't, I read that one guy actually swallowed some in cognac.
2. Girly men. Let me tell you about our cafeteria at school: private school which hires some caterers to work for us. One day they had a bucket o frozen, u-peel shrimp. I was the only one with cojones large enough to eat some shrimp there- everyone else threw them around, etc. Half of them thought that having the legs on was disgusting. The other half were tossing them at other tables.
That was the last time we had frozen cocktail shrimp.

Nono. That isn't what I meant.
I meant safe food like, even the food-wimps will eat it. Nothing terribly exciting. Burgers. Chicken fingers. That kind of thing.
I don't think an Indian restaurant would fly. When you're dealing with 40 people, there's a good chance someone somewhere isn't going to find anything on the menu they'd be willing to eat.
Hence the need for the "safe" food option. Nothing too daring.

40 people is a bit of a stretch for something for that price range, places like that probly only have 40 seats, and no banquet room, and the only place i can think of off hand closed down(Anderson's Pea Soup, good stuff and i think there's like only 2 left)
but i can keep looking and get back to you

Dave and Busters
Ruby's Pier Diner (VERY GOOOOOOOD!) (you sit in a 50's style diner 150 yards off the coast, 75 feet above the water. Food is good, service is great, and they have a second story with a skylight that they can reserve for large parties.)
ANYWHERE in the Gas-Lamp District (San Diego Convention Center is in this).
OceanSide Harbor, anywhere in there is good food.
I know of several very good sit down mexican food restraunts. Cheap and good food. Name where this is gonna be, and I can name a good place near by.
Ciao's Italian Food. (there's also several good Italian Food resraunts in North County...)
Outback Steak House (a bit pricy, but you get food on a platter that is like 3foot by one foot, piled with food...)
Umm...yeah. I have the good fortune of living in San Diego. Name it and I've either been there, done it, or seen it happen...

D&B aint a bad idea, maybe that for the big night when everybody shows up, then maybe a smallish place for another night(s?)
Ruby's: Good stuff, cherry syurp for the coke(Woooooo) good food, nice atmosphere, and the water close by incase of any trouble makers, or if we get bored. Outback, not a bad idea either, but feels too chainy for me, and their food kinda sucks. Mexican food isnt too out there, you can always find something, even for the picky eaters, italian food, same thing. BBQ or even a steak house isnt a bad idea(kinda partial to BBQ myself)
And In-N-Out rules man!!!! :groovy:
(i've been here at psu for a while, i'm just really quiet and only really read the posts(and laughed) for a while before i signed up, and even then i still just read)

White castle?
Edit: Indian food is a bad idea IMO. Someone is bound to have IBS and have to go take a dump each half hour if it came to pass.
Sushi Bar could go on the menu but I don't know if everyone going to PSU:MB could stomach raw fish and wasabi.

Heh :D
Was thinkin' about some good BBQ joints, as that seems to be a fav:
Joe's BBQ Grill
BBQ Blues (They have live bands play there on friday nights.)
...actually there is a good BBQ joint in just about every city in SD County....so really any place you decide to stay will be an easy jump to good BBQ.
And don't call me sir...I don't like feeling old at my acquired years of 17...
Oh yeah! If ya'll don't mind the places, there are some good Casino Resorts out here that have good restaurants in them: Barojas, Viejas, and...lemme go watch TV for half an hour, I'll get about three more...
