First of all, I would just like to say techno is not my kind of music in the slightest, so if I offend anybodies techno sensibilities... deal with it. :p

I am doing a school video project and I need some good techno for background music.

So please, recommend your finest techno bands or artists or whatever you call em!
:groovy:

EDIT: /em wonders if anyone even remebers him...

Makin a movie for my english class (not sure why...).

Mine is gonna be about a homeless young girl who knife some older guy (got a teacher for this role, hes a cool guy, but he to looks to nice, not nearly evil bastard looking enough) because he picks her up in his car, then tries to rape he. It turns out the guy was a politician (of what kind, I don't know yet, still finishing the script) or maybe a big bussiness man or something. Anywho, its about the following 24 hours of her life, as the cops look for her etc. etc.

It will probably be pretty chessy, but oh well.

Either way, I want the music to be a big part of the movie, so I want to flesh out the story while listening to what will be the soundtrack so the script kinda absorbs the atmosphere of the songs.

Thanks for the names, I am downloa... err... going out to purchase their music right now. :p

EDIT: Unless you can't tell, this movie has a darker twist to it, so keep that in mind with teh reccomendations please. :P The Fight Club soundtrack is almost exactly what I would immagine for this story, but it is so well known that it would be kinda stupid. :D

Hmm. The Run Lola Run (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000JG17/qid%3D1102037646/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-7090477-0915366) soundtrack might work well for you, then!

Hard, pounding stuff or kinda laid back stuff?

Edit, Dragula by Rob Zombie may be good
Also, Dread Rock by Paul Oakenfold may fit well.

Hmm, always wanted to see that movie, I give it a go. Thanks. :groovy:

Hard, pounding stuff or kinda laid back stuff?
Either one, just so long as it has a dark or sad feel to it.

Check my edit. Those may work, i need to see what works for you and what doesnt and go from there.

EDIT: anything by The Infinity Project might fit well. The only problem is the avalablility of the *cough* perchase... of the album/tracks...

All right, I have downloaded quite a few stuff of the ones you guys have been listing. Overall its all really high energy stuff, which will fit in with a couple of the more action packed seens, but I still need something more mellow and sad and whatnot.

I like quite a bit of Oakenfolds stuff, just maybe no for this project.
I like Dread Rock, I will have to work that in.
Dragula is abit to hard and angry.
Haven't been able to find a place to <ahem> purchase the songs off of the run lola run ST, but I will keep trying.

Hmmm, might just have to merge techno with classical or something else...

I wish the Fight Club Score wasn't so well known, or I would just copy it song for song :p

EDIT: How rude, I forgot to thank you guys for all the good suggestions, http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/images/smilies/You-Rock.gif keep it up! :groovy:

What about anything off Radiohead's Kid A album?

Its mellow, but REALLY well known...

Rob Dougan's "Clubbed to Death"

For more artsy-sounding stuff, try VNV Nation, though, they almost all have lyrics, unfortunatly.

Wow, that crazy, I just pulled my radio head cds out of my backpack to see what songs I could use...
Ok, spill it, where did you hide the camera? :scared:

I don't like techno much...but Aphex Twin is hands down the most talented techno "artist" I have any knowledge of.

Definetly check out Aphex Twin....The best, better than all the rest.

Chemical Brothers can be used if you need something slightly well heard (not the name known) and kinda random.

"The Calling" by A Positive Life is sure to get you popping tiny pills and having sex with girls in bright colors in a warehouse bathroom in mere seconds.

It also reminds me of that game Wipeout.

Just look for ambient trance around the web for mellowness.

OK, technically not a true techno song (and it has words, sort of), but The Equaliser by Clinic makes me want to dance all over your face.

Ambient is easy. It's pretty obvious from this thread. But if you want some true sonic depth to your story, strive for something better than just the mellow ambient sound.

Aphex Twin goes alot farther than anyone in this thread truely realizes. What he has done with Techno is beyond beats and "head bobbing and body shaking"...he takes it to another level.

To me, ambient is factory churned pop music, anyone can do it with little know how. I will mention chemical brothers here because they take the steps, but Aphex Twin takes the meaning of your story in full meaning.

Aphex twin would (could?) make the meaning of your story come to life.

I will help. PM me if you like.

Otherwise go with ambient elevator music. That seems to work easily. But not very compelling.

Scooter is alright for techno, but can get annoying at times. I also like the band Brainbug, friggin "Nightmare" is a badass tune, and "Rain" is also pretty good. Benny Benassi is also pretty fun if you are in the Mr. Roboto type mood. The bands Hooverphonic and DJ Tiesto have some nice tracks, as well of course, Da Rude, 'cause "Sandstorm" just rocks. Liquid Tension Acid Experiment is pretty decent too, though I've only heard a couple of their tracks. For some nice chill-out tunes listen to some Moby, particularly "Porcelain".

...and thats all I've got.

Meat Beat Manifesto - not really techno, but some good stuff. :)

I know their stage drummer, he's my friends cousin.

for ambient background music I would suggest

Moby
Orbital
Basement Jaxx
Groove Armada
Daft Punk
or for a little harder Aphex Twin

I am the resident techno master!!!

I didn't read beyond the third post because um... yeah.

I recommend Darude or This (http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail45.html)

The link, you can find a track at the end. And make sure you turn off the lights. :D
