ok, so i have everything except for a good precessor. So here's my Q, can i overclock the beast in order to get over the gigger mark, or do i need to shell out 600+ dollars to play this beast of a game?

Well, this wouldbe better uited for tech section but waht;s your proccessor type and clock speed? you'll probably hvae to upgrad your mobo and processor and RAM depending on your current setup

We need your system specs before we could determine something like that. It is very unlikely you would have to spend $600 for a processor upgrade unless you want a P4 2.8 GHZ+ and if you include a very good mobo and 512 MB Ram that would likely run you a little over 700, but you don't need a monster to play. There are alot of options, how much are you willing to pay?

pretty much nothing. But seriously, i'll have about $200 by the time the game comes out. And i have to buy the game and stuff. I have 512 of ram, i have a radeon with 64 megs of ram, i have a good sound card, and i have a 800 meger CPU or something around that. It should be able to over clock to over a gigahertz, and i have all of the rest of the stuff i need. I can run BF fine, i don't see how this would be much harder.

There's many versions of Radeons but that's besides the point. Wait until the new specs are released. BTW, over clocking really needs to know the processor type.

If you pay $600 for a processor you are nuts. If you want to spend $600 get a whole new computer... lol

I wouldn't compare BF1942 to Planetside. BF1942 graphically is nothing compared to Planetside. More specifically the maps. These maps are enormous. They aren't just enormous, they are extremely detailed. When you throw in a hundred or so people on your screen in a large battle your not going to be happy with how a 64mb graphics card will hold up when partnered with a slow processor like that.
As for overclocking your 800 mhz... You really should just go with a new processor. Are you running an Intel or AMD? what's your motherboard model btw? We need to have more detailed specs for your computer. Your motheboard needs to be able to handle a faster processor before you can upgrade it. If it can't you would need to dish out more money for that. If you do decide to overclock are you going to have proper cooling? What's your case like? model would help even more.
You don't want to butcher the graphics in planetside just to play the game. If you can't afford it but really want play the game that's one thing but if you can there is no reason to hesitate. Don't think of upgrading your system just for this game but think of it as upgrading for the future of gaming :D
It doesn't cost $600 for a 2.8 ghz btw. That's closer to the price of the P4 3.06ghz with HT. 2.8 is more like $400.

Over in our dev-stalker forumn. The thread is entitled "Yo! Worried bout your rig Dawg? G-Money SJ gots your Back, keeps it real."
Seems appropriate. Just a bit.
(cliff notes: The requirements are coming down, but no official numbers yet)

Can you handle a 64 player BF1942 server well when it's full and lots of stuff is happening on screen? BF1942's netcode sucks so that may be a good comparison but PS will probably still run slower. It's massive and lots of stuff is happening

I haven't seen a single BF1942 map that comes even close to the scale/detail of the PS continents.

i have no problem with running it at really low res until i get a new rig. I have an intel, and i don't know what the hell the Mobo is, cause i'm stupid, and i don't wanna find out. That's all folks

uhhh, as for BF maps, i really haven't seen screens of PS that look much more detailed. And i really don't expect to see many more than 100 players on the screen. If i do, i'll just turn my head and lob nades at the masses.

How old is your computer?

2 years old or so. Not to bad, and the vid card still works wonderfully on any game i've yet found. So i really think that I'm gonna try to tweak my baby as little as possible (especially since i have very little money to do anything)

Save some money buy a new computer ,remember doom3 is just around the corner to :D

yeh, i could care less about doom 3. I'm starting to care less and less about PS, but i think i'll still get it and play with it a while. I want less generic FPSs. Lately all it's about is the tac ops shit. Then every once in a while there's a generic game like doom. games are getting more and more boring as time goes on. People need to start being more inovative, cause i'm sick of this BS

I wouldnt recommend overlocking if you dont know exactly what your doing or have someone that does. Your cpu could burst into flames. :D

yes, but if it did, then i might get the comp replaced, which is not a bad thing, muhahahahahaha. I'm not living on my own as you can tell
