i was looking on some planetside sites today because i got a bit bored doing my history courcework, and i came accross some pre beta screenshots on one site. seeing as though i started playing planetside about this time last year i dont realy know much about the priliminary stuff sony had floating around in 2002.

take a look at this 360 image i found anyway, notice the difference in the trees, the guass and the mag scatter. plus check out the wierd vanu building and the weapon the NC guy is holding, if anyone knows the name of it, or any other removed weapons please post them!!! the image takes a while to load by the way.

there are four other 360 images on the site, no VS though, so i guess they were a later addition.

that weapon looks most likely like the old version of the roklett
or the jackhammer

it could be the rocklet, but it looks move like it would be a big laser or somthing? plus on another 360 picture there was a TR with a jackhammer, which may have meant the TR were meant to have the jackhammer at first! you never know!

Might be the rocklet, or it could be the flamethrower (I've forgotten what that looked like.) I believe the gun on his back is the old suppressor, or maybe gauss. Another thing to note: he's in agile armor, but with two primary weapons.

Most of that stuff is from way back when... everybody looked like NC, there were four corporations (one being mercenary), and you were given a salary.

Yeah, this is truly the old school of PS. The idea of the game used to be that you'd go on missions for your corporation, and you'd be able to take a squad of guys with you. When you completed the mission you'd get paid and be able to buy new stuff, and all that jazz. I think you got money for killing enemies too, I dunno. Either way though.

Yeah, money instead of BEP. You could have apartments back then, too. :(

They definitely had a sort of Russian look going for the TR back then. Look at the cheek bones on that broad.

yeah, they scaled back the graphics a bit so people could play on normal computers.
if they'd kept the original stuff it would've killed anything on the market, and would even drown today's newest machines.

also, i'd like to point out that the flamethrower has the same lower reciever as the jackhammer

Aaaah beta days. I remember poring over this material and being happy.

Lonehunter, that was unofficially called the "Jawa" on the OF's, after a very special guy ;D

Would often see the "jawa! jawa! jawa!" chants. Good times. Sniff.

Why did they take the flamethrower out?

Why did they take the flamethrower out?
the flames would've been a sonofabitch to render and probably would've slowed the game down significantly. especially with all sorts of people catching on fire. yeah, ridiculous. I do think some of the weapons need a redesign, i'll be honest.

The one's i think need a quick facelift:

The Gaussy
The Deci
The Punisher
The MCG
The Maelstrom (sorta)

Other than that, the guns are fine. Though, i maintain that the magscatter and that little piece of shit the VS have are just junk. The TR got the best sidearm. Repeater is leet sauce.

That makes me real pissed that they had to change all the nice lookng additions to the game. It was a better game back then.

Seems like making as much money as sony does, they could have afforded to make a better game in the first place, but didnt feel like it.

Part of the requirement of a game is that people can actually play it.
