I see absolutely no reason for this to go away after this event (assuming they're trying to say that they will will after the event).

This is a step in the right direction. Ideally, ALL continents should have unique lock incentives attached to them.

Beyond that, the battle islands should maintain those unique qualities. Cert exceptions will help give them a flavor even beyond what the terrain favors.

[Edit: Yeah, nevermind. These are apparently permanent. The "December" thing threw me off. Defenitely a step in the right direction. Now we just need incentives for EVERY battle continent.]

I like the idea of the unique fighting on each battle continent. Hopefully that stays even after the event is over.

I dont know if it would be such a good idea for the coninent incentives to stay after the event though because then the only fighting will ever be on the battle islands leaving the rest of the worlds bare (remember when battle islands first came out and that was the only place you could find a fight?).

That's only for Desolation. All BFRs are banned from Nexus, Extinction and Ascension.

They should make it so that if you lock down all four islands, a Lodestar spawns in the Sanctuary with a massive kamikaze nuclear weapon in the back- an ANT with all the trunk space filled up with a 40 kiloton tactical nuke.

The ANT starts out next to the Lodestar. To trigger the nuke, either the pilot or driver must bail the vehicle out of the Lodestar, then the driver must sacrifice him/herself by clicking the mouse, a la Dr. Strangelove.

I forsee a major problem with this event, and that is that the island warpgates are not broadcast. This gives a major advantage to the team holding the island, and the empire with a direct link to it, since you cannot bring the designated equipment to the proper island if your only link to it is though an island where those items are prohibited. For example, if you're trying to take Ascension (air war, no AA) from Extinction (light vehicles and infantry, no aircraft), you'll be at a major disadvantage. However, taking Extinction from Ascension is much less difficult. Also, the empire that holds Ascension will be the only empire other than the owner able to make Gal drops on Nexus. Let's not even go into trying to take Desolation from Nexus.
As for some reason, I cannot post on the Official Forums, I'd appreaciate it if someone would bring this to Spork's or Sam's attention.

Don't forget the changes Sam just made:

Striker gets its lock back on ascension
All AV will be common pool on ascension
Deliverer variants are banned from ascension
Heavy Assault banned from desolation

I like the common pool AV ande also the banned HA from the respective islands. I think it will really set the tone for some cool fights. Specially using tanks as moving cover for MA long range fights!

Yeh, going along with what everyone else had said, i was talking about this the other week with the guys and they said the same thing. Each cont should give its own advantages. Right now its just real estate that gives you links, nothing more. Make it mean something. Maybe if you lose your home continent you get extra five min of veh timers or something to make you want to have it and encourage defense.

And its a good thing too, grant it implementing new idea's takes time, but I still wonder what took so long...

Maybe because people weren't really voicing their opinion about having continent buffs(cant think of the right word).. I did see a few of those type of threads though a couple months ago... but lately they have seemed to shoot up more

Anyways as Peacemaker said, I'm coming out of retirement as well, or at least till the newness wears off.... :D

Then he doesn't take it seriously, because every single idea they can come up with has already been created on that site. All he has to do is click anywhere and he has the next good idea. Oh, and what priorities? Honestly, they still haven't even fixed the merit bug with agile and they gave some bs response when people asked about it. I really do wonder what they do at work, maybe they just play EQ2 or WoW.

I think Samhayne is perfectly capable of thinking up his own ideas. It is his job, after all.

Oh, and what priorities?

BFRs, Merits, new monthly events, base redesigning, phantasm, all the little changes Samhayne has probably wanted to make since before he became Lead Designer, etc etc.

Oh my, you can't fully see the merit badges in a certain type of armor at lower graphics settings. This is a critical flaw and vastly more game-breaking than any crash bugs they may have or serious graphical issues that directly impact gaming.

Whatever, point still stands. They've definitely got more important bugs to be fixing. And if I remember correctly, the problem that's causing the merit badge display problems has something to do with the models degrading, which will take them a fair bit of work to correct. It was asked at the last Ask the Devs, I believe, so you can look there for the answer straight from Sporkfire.

Face it folks, the rate content comes out for planetside sucks. No new bases no real new maps (the battle islands were jsut kinda rehash of same ol' same ol') I too wonder what they do all day or how many they have on their team as it seems to me that if they had a design team of any decent size content should be trucking out a lot faster. Oh well this will most likely get me flamed by the die hard fanboys but i dont actualy give a shit anymore.

Their team is quite small. I remember seeing a picture of the entire team before, and there were only 30 or so people, if that. For an MMO, that's a really small team.
