Well for the BFRs they would have had to put hit boxes for the different guns, shield gen, legs etc. So does that still mean they can't put head shots in?

defining hitboxes on (so many) characters would be overly taxing on client machines, and would be significantly detrimental to game performance.

edit: you probably know about how people complain that BFRs lag their machines so hard - it's not just the polygons.

yeah what martyr said, because if you hit there legs, slower speed,
hit their gun, weapon malfunction, hit their trunk, tunk loss.. ect ect...

Think about it: if this game was like any other in terms of headshots or how about one shot kill grenades? 100% cloaker battles with everyone dying instantly... meh i'd rather not. I'd also rather not have some idiot with a bolt driver to instantly kill me without me even realizing he existed. I know that's how snipers work in real life, but PS isn't life.

Done.

The BFR's don't have hit boxes either. The different damage is based off of a dice roll. This is why you can sit there and blast the shield gen, yet destroy something in the trunk. The hits are totally random.

That's not correct. You can blast the shield and destroy something in the trunk because the shields tend to be mounted on the torso of the BFR, and some of your shots are missing the shield and hitting the torso, causing critical hits that destroy trunk items.

That would be a step i think PS should take. A "hitbox" could be made for arm head legs. hit in head your aiming reticle always stays big and if your hit in the eyes/face your vision is fuzzy/shaky.

Legs are shot after half-life your movment speed would decrease by half and you cant jump or burst.

Arms and you couldnt us AV weapons/ heavy assualt wepons. and your aiming is shaky.

These varibles only come into effect when your half-life-.

Could be fun for urban style warfare and add great new complexities to the game withone a detrimental effect on the ground troops.

Medics would became a hell of a lot funner....

Hopefully they could bust that out in 1 month.

The servers would DIE if they did that. Thats a LOT of variables to keep track of for every player, and when you have 166 players on one continent... no. I mean, Regular FPS servers have trouble tracking two hit boxes (Headshot and "non-headshot"), and that's just different damage, so imagine a game with three or four hitboxes, and you would need specific variables to keep track of whether or not someone would be under a specific ailment.

More than two hitboxes works for Single Player games, but not for Multiplayer FPS's.

Tribes 3 has around six hit boxes on each person and you can now have up to 128 people on a server. I have been in a 128 person game on the largest custom map (about the size of two of Oshurs islands) and I experienced no lag. So, it can be done.

Kam, it also depends on the user's computer, im not sure what you have, but people that use slower comps would end up pulling out a shotgun and blasting his school from the lag.

But PlanetSide has a lot more variables to keep track of for each player than Tribes 3 does, and also, the amount of lag is dependant on a couple of things. The dedicated server that is running each continent is the most deciding factor in how much lag there will be.

Plus, PlanetSide has not only all the players, but all the vehicles, and all the bases and towers, it would just get ridiculous.
